Is the Khuzait Horseman nerfed? "question"

Recruit
So, i started a new campaign, Khuzait was the choose one this time. I tried to make a smaller melee Horseman army and skirmish my way through the early game. But the first bigger battle stopped me. 50+ Horseman were totally holded up and killed by an average group of mostly Recruit troops in a two man line formation army. They are kinda costly unit, i thought they should easy win in this situation. I always used them in Warband to kill the low armored stationary units fast.
Anyone else with the same experience or i'm missing something? Should they really be this weak at Tier 3 with that price?

I've done some pt with cavalry recently, the best tactic for me is loose formation and two groups charging one after the other

Yeah, I tried this loose formation and timed charge as well, but they still cant broke the formation and their damage is too low to sustain in a long fight.

Melee cavalry is a bad place in Bannerlord. They don't actually kill very well, for most of them. They should be made better but there has been only one substantial change to correct this (fixing the Z-axis aiming bug) and for the most part you're better off with horse archers or archers.

Yap. Melee cav is in a weird place where they are unable to kill a group of exposed archers, but at the same time run head-first into a spearmen shieldwall and survive. It would be nice if they were easier to kill when running headfirst into infantry, but did more damage against archers or when flanking.
They should be a force for surgical strikes and devastating flanks, but currently seem to be more like tankier infantry. One of the best uses I have seen for them is to just sort of park them on enemy archers so they will get distracted and not use their bows. It's weird.

Those horse archers are monsters, feels like cheating sometimes.

This.

I tend to have fewer heavy cav now days, that are better armoured - like Empire cataphracts. Then I just use them as charge disrupters to get in AI armies faces just before they're about to attack by running them through to turn the enemy around, or if their horse archers are about to flank I F1/F3 them at the last second. In both cases they need to be recalled and relaunched fairly shortly afterwards if I want to have any survive the battle. Sometimes I just park them behind my archers to clean up any stragglers that push through or flank my mainline while I'm focussed on getting my horse archers into place.

I don't mind if that's the way it is. That they're more of a utility fast response force rather than an offensive strike force. But it isn't very romantic. I think this will be the way they go until or unless we have the ability to actually target enemy units and thus use lances effectively en-masse.

Yeah ive been playing Warband Nova Aetas mod (highly recommend) and was reminded quite rudely how effective old school Cav is -Bannerlord they just cant aim properly its really a step backwards. Just goes to show how hard these things are to achieve engine-wise for any game

Yeah I agree. There are just no disadvantages to them. They wear some of the best armors in the game and have good melee weapons as well. My favorite is the Khan's Guard. Great armor, a Glaive which can thrust and swing and amazing bowmanship. You basically have one of the best archers combined with one of the best melee cavalry in the game. The can literally replace all other units on the field of battle whatever that battle is including siege attack and defense.

They basically only function to distract enemies from your archers, stand in front of you archers (and die for them) and chase HA away (and died to them). Even the heavy armored ones will die too easily and of course it's low odds of actually killing a ground unit, they can do a bit better against other mounted units if you're lucky.
