Many say the troop tree of Sturgia is the weakest, is it really the weakest?

There are some changes in 1.4.3, so it might depend which version people are on.

When you capture troops from opposing factions which do you cherry pick to recruit and which get sold? Excluding Elite lines. Sturgia is one of 3 factions where I take on a limited number of only one troop type from their main tree (shock troop). The other two factions being Battania ( wildling) and Asseri (mamluke cavalry) though sometimes take their archers if my preferred sources are scarce.

I think srurgias biggest problem is its geographical location an layout. It definitely puts them at a tactal disadvantage.

They added spears to Veteran Warriors, which does help them out a little I guess. But they were doing more than fine without them. The atrocious Sturgian Spearman still sucks badly though, so its still going to be a bit of a bottleneck to get them.

I honestly don't know how to feel about the Horse Raiders line getting lances now. On one hand, that gives them an extra role as lancer cavalry, which is interesting. But the loss of the second set of javelins does hurt their ability to do their original job. I'd test this, but the Custom Battles with Selectable troops mod has been borked with the updates.

They did buff the party templates though, so that's some potential. Not sure if that will be enough though, their campaign situation is something that needs to be tested with an actual playthrough.

They still routinely miss with their attempts at lancing and don't have the armor (at a glance) to go head-on against archers without taking undue losses, so I chalk this one up as a L.

I like to think of it as giving them more of a hybrid light cavalry role, but yeah. If you like them for skirmishing, this is a loss.

I think its... fine? It weakens them, but I think Sturgia shouldn't have the very best javelin cavalry when a faction like Battania should. Then again, their mtd skirmishers still suck. I hope they add some more boosts to Sturgia, like giving their archers shields to differentiate them from other archers. If not, modding time.

I look at it like this: Sturgia exists while bordering the Khuzait Khanate. Trying to counter-charge some Khuzaits (especially now that more of them have javelins) with only OK armor on a mostly unarmored horse is bound to end in tears, so they probably can't pull off the half-lancer style especially well in the east. It might be acceptable fighting Battania or Vlandia though.

At any rate, Sturgia's biggest issues are probably geographical. It is way too easy to cut their lands in half by taking Omor and Ov Castle.

And that every bordering nation forcefully engages them in coitus

They can still perform counter skirmisher cavalry with the 4 javelins they have, but yeah. Not exactly looking hot. Still, they basically function like a dollar store version of the Faris, for whatever that's worth.

Better hope that TW decides to give them actual armour then.
