Is loot cool now?

Man, I didn't even know how much I missed being able to actually equip myself from loot and not just towns. This is from a very small skirmish against Sea Raiders, 4 of them, with my 12 guys. I have yet to see the results of large battles, but so far so good

Hey Madijeis,

Loot drops and item modifiers saw significant changes in 1.9.0, to summarize the changes:

  • Item drops have been tweaked to reduce the quantity of the items while increasing the value of each item dropped.
  • Item modifiers were added to shops.
  • Item modifiers have also been tweaked heavily to now make it much more likely compared to previous versions for you to come across positively modified items
  • You are overall more likely to find negatively modified items from battles meanwhile you are also more likely to find positively modified or non-modified items from shops.
Hope this clears it up!

Edit: For the first point: the amount of "gold" gained from a given battle should be around the same as far as my testing goes, so the game should™ not be broken in terms of income from battles. However if you guys realize any problems with it in either direction feel free to let me know here.

Joined as a mercenary and fought a battle, got some splint boots and decent shoulder pieces. I agree, it feels great to actually get some useable stuff again

Hope this clears it up!
Slightly related to this - does this mean...

1) That the Metallurgy perk is fixed for reducing the chance of negative prefixes to items?
2) Is there a secondary effect of Metallurgy or other loot related perks (from Roguery base skill & the Roguery loot perks) increasing the chance of positive prefixes to the loot?

Overall I love I can now get even better RNG loot than having to sit on top of a town and shove materials into it to get a chance of a nice set of gear. Once the bug with some of the prefixes not working correctly is fixed this will be awesome!

1) Metallurgy should work properly(decreasing the chance of negatively modified items, not increasing the chance of positively modified ones) however is probably is a bit OP at the moment, will keep an eye on it and tweak as necessary.
2) There is nothing in the game currently that increases the chance of positively modified items.

I do understand the desire for such a thing given how bad the drop rates were but the current implementation should eliminate the need for it.

For the bugs currently we know of 2 modifier/prefixes not working properly("Fine" for leather and "Lordly" for chain type of armors) and those will be fixed in the hotfix. If you know of more problems please do let me know.

Thanks for the reply and infos. Keep up the good work!

Oh no don't nerf Metallurgy, grinding to 250 Engineering is hard enough as it is haha.

Thanks for the answers - will keep an eye out for other modifiers not behaving as they should! This is an awesome change so thanks for that and the answers

Thanks for the clarification in the edit, I was worried that income was even more skewed in favour of battle loot instead of income from fiefs.

If I'm not wrong,it seems you guys finally brought back the Warband item modifiers, I hope modifiers -like masterwork- too are brought back for weapons. It will be good if you bring back the horse modifiers as well, such as Champion/Heavy/Spirited/Stubborn ect.

Thanks for the report, noted these for the hotfix.

Cheers, do let me know if you notice further skewage.

Masterwork is already among the modifiers for weapons! Can't say anything about horses yet but will bring it up for discussion.

Nice change indeed. I have already started my private collection of master pieces. It's a pitty there is nowhere to place them for showcase. Like armory in my castle...or for noble horses to see them in a stable 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes this is a welcome change indeed. Fought some Skolderbroda in new sandbox campaign, got a higher quality mail shirt. This is going to help new players out quite a bit, if not improve their overall experience.

Previously loot really should have simply been all gold, since no one in their right mind would want to equip lesser quality gear.

I feel like saying 1.9 is a "small patch" is very misleading. It's almost completely changed the game with Cavalry actually being able to defeat Archers (and just be useful in general), banner mechanics, and loot serving a practical purpose.

I would like to suggest that the upgraded equipment image have an outline indicating that it is an upgraded item, with the traditional blue, green, purple and golden yellow that is commonly used. Something that helps to see quickly that you achieved something cool in a loot.

I've gotten several pieces of noble armor, it's nice to get like a rat to look for the shiny things in the post battle loot.

@Gaerlim could you also add the modified versions of items to the cheat mode menu and/or a console command to change modifiers?
This would make the cheat mode list approximately 5 times longer so that probably won't happen. Console commands are also unlikely but I will bring it forward for discussion.

Glad you guys are enjoying the change overall! We did notice loot being just a bit too powerful for early game and not as varied as we would like it to be in the mid&late game so there will be some tweaks coming.

As more variation means more gold in most cases due to higher tier troops being equipped with expensive gear, balancing the gold gained from loot and loot variety is a delicate matter. You can expect to see more small tweaks regarding this topic as we hear from you guys in the future.
