To be honest, I still haven't confirmed that they do or don't.  I do know that the average level of pathfinding for the party does affect it though, and of course the player's level of pathfinding is the final bump.

Races to go to war...
There are easyer races and bad races...

easyest race to go to war with.... Rhodocs if you do not charge trough them (i just hate the spearwall and charge trough them anyway)
The crosbowman are lame in sieges facing ivory archers, and with small exceptions the AI does not concentrate archers, but infantery. Just snipe them from the distance

Second best. Vaegirs . They have huge amounts of infantery without spears. Chargers should do the trick... Sieges are worse ... but not that bad... The loot is great thow

Third pick: Swadians... they are tough... but not tough enough as they still have huge amounts of useless infantery to charge trough. Or to snipe... Excelent loot.

forth (worse wars) NORD... Crappy loot, All of them are archers... They actualy kicked me out of some of the castles during sieges. The ammount of life makes them survive anything but headshots... Easyer to kill in the field...

Worse choice... KHERGITS...  Hard to fight them.. even harder to take their castles... Smaller life, Better loot, Deadly arhers... legions of them. To be fought only after you have defeated the vaegirs (you will nead the Ivory Bows...)
I've added a faction battle fact where I will notify how the certain faction behaves in both siege battle and battlefield battles where for instance I will write that the Khergits are pain in the ass at battlefield battles because mounted archers etc etc:wink:

Hi. First of all, love the guide and love the mod. I'm having lots of fun and I'm looking forward to future updates.

That said, I'm having one teensy weensy problem with creating my own faction. Specifically, changing the name. I followed the guide and changed the line and number that was indicated, but when I load the save game I see no change in the name (It's still called Kingdom of King Loras). Luckily, the save game itself works fine otherwise, so my problem is only an aesthetic issue. I can live with it if I have to, but I'd prefer not to if I don't have to.

To give you a better idea of the circumstances behind this problem, I'll mention now that I'm running Windows Vista. The game (and the troops text document) is installed in the Program Files, but the savegames go into the Documents/Mount&Blade savegame folder.

Edit: Here's the line itself..
trp_player_kingdom_name Kingdom_of_Highgarden name 0 0 0 1 0 0

The second to last number was a 1 when I first saw it, so I changed it to a 0, but there was no change, so I changed it back to 1, and again, no change. Now it's a 0 again (ya, I was beating a dead horse with this number...)

Changing the troops.txt and then loading a save game where you already have a kingdom isn't going to change the name.  Once you've made the change in the .txt file, if you've already started your own kingdom you need to tell the game to reset your faction name.  This can only be done from the Kingdom Management menu, available in any town you control.  If you don't control a town... go capture one.  It's just one of the many advantages of having a town.

Thank you.

Gives me another reason to get a town then. It's a goal I'm increasingly determined to reach.

Well I would suggest you just simply patch the game to get a new fresh troops.txt file and see if the problem reaccur then.
If it doesn't it may suggest that you done something wrong with the faction name editing. You got to be carefull with spaces and etc.
Give me a feedback when you tried:wink:

Coruskane: Thank you  Well I guess I have to sit down one boring night and just plow through all the features and add them to my guide:wink: And I shall try to update the troop tree asap  I currently only base the troop tree on the same info found sticky on the sub forum

well I personally think I have got the hang of most of the newer things, though I have yet to mess around with my own kingdom. One day when I have done so, and when I find the time, I could probably provide some text for you.

horses most definately do, but it is not a real worry unless you are a trader, or usually have an inventory full of loot. With larger parties the horse bonus may not be much, but when you are scraping together every source of speed possible so you can outpace the smaller enemy lord parties etc it does become useful. I usually just keep a few remounts at the bottom of my inventory, which are convenient for not only the speed bonus but moreover when my horse becomes crippled I can easily replace it without having to trail around a few towns finding the right one (I usually have a few coursers, 1 hunter, and maybe 2 chargers).

edit: andI just realised I was replying to Jinnai...it's like trying to teach one's grandmother to suck eggs

Guys, so do you take incresease a npc Pathfinding skill? If yes, what companion? Then, to have a nice move speed how many horse (and what horses) do you put in your inventory? There is another thing that increase the speed?

Errr... hi guys!

I'm having a bit of a problem creating my own faction, this is how it goes. i take over Vyincourd Castle, i then save and exit. i go to this directory: C:\Program Files\Mount&Blade\Modules\Native Expansion to get to my troops.txt, i go to my troops.txt and it says trp_player_kingdom_name Change_this_to_your_kingdom_name name 0 0 0 1 1 0 - as you can see. it already has the second to last 1... so i try to change it to 0, save, then put my Faction name in, put it back to one and it does not change my faction name... all it says is: Kingdom of Lord D3c4P1t4T0r

Do it the easy way - take over a town (not a castle), go to the manage kingdom option from the town menu, and you can just hit the button to change the kingdom name to your character's name. (Change your character name first if you want something else for your name).

Err... kinda like too late... can i still d oit if i have basically taken over Vaegris?

i checked the starters guide (the one about merchents and stuff) i started one assess local prices etc bought the item tryed too go too the city but all the merc partys were faster then me and i was soon cut down.

Ouch.  Keep in mind that as you sell items in a particular town, the merchants' demand goes down and they pay you less.  Try to sell in the surrounding towns when you notice you aren't making enough.  The towns nearby generally have the same basic supply/demand.

For example -  If you are taking goods to Veluca, sell in Jelkala and Narra as well.

Also, in the town you are buying from note that the price goes up as you buy due to a lower supply.  The same rule can be applied here.  It might take a little practice, but you should get the hang of it.  Merchanting with a full army isn't the best idea, but if you can get a few companions on horses (Enough to take out roaming bands not war parties) you should be ok.  Hook them all up with blunt weapons and chargers and farm them for prisoners as you travel

Another thing to keep in mind is that villages surrounding a town that you are buying from might have the items cheaper than the town.  Keep a lookout for these as well... while you're at it, if you see any fresh meat in a village buy it (It usually costs 10 denar in a village and sells for 90 denar in any town) - it isn't much, but it is a quick and easy 80 denar.

I hope this helps

Hi!

I've been searching through the forums but can't seem to find an answer to one of my questions. When you create your own kingdom I know you can end a war by talking to the relevant monarch of a faction, and you end up paying about a billion denars, but will other monarch's ever offer to make peace with you if you are trouncing all over them?

Thanks!

I've been offered peace before by some other factions.  I don't know if it is dependent upon you actually doing anything or not (Like destroying all lords or something), but it does pop up from time to time.

Hey,

Thanks for that info, I suppose I'll just carry on being destructive with the Khergits then!

Cheers

Very nice work indeed, thanks a million!

I'm at like 90+ days, and I have over 300K Denars, equiped with Lordly items and Balanced Jousting Lance, Balanced Champion Sword (for some reason I prefer this sword rather than Jeweled).

I hired 2 companions, a scout and a medic. Both well equiped with Heavy Charger and Ivory Arrows - they don't have melee weapons and they never get close to enemies.

Here are some questions at this point:

1. At what point should I start bringing up bigger war bands? What would be a good Empire to start with?

2. Do companions still have original personality settings? In original Native MOD, 16 companions are like divided into 2 teams. You can only keep them cool if you hired the right 8 of them. Is that still true?

3. Dark Knights have invaded this land. How hard are they compared to other Empire troops? Balanced or way over powered? If I see any other Empire troop is fighting with a band of Dark Knights, would it be wise to join them? (My relationship with Dark Knights is -40 automatically. )

Thanks in advance!

1. You should probably start working on your army at this point.  You have enough cash available and you should be high enough level now.  I usually start building my army slowly at about day 50.  I prefer Rhodoks, but any should be good.  From the description of your heroes you might enjoy Khergit.  They are ranged cavalry heavy.

2. Companions still have personality conflicts.  I think there is a spoiler in the first few posts of this thread that hashes out all of the conflicts.  If you want 16 companions you can turn off the option in the camp menu.  Personally, I turn this off because I like running around with a war party of companions and not many other troops, but to each his own.

3. I haven't fought them yet, but from other people's posts the Dark Knights are way overpowered.

Good luck
