They go recruiting, as we've said earlier, I believe. Companions act exactly like normal Lords. Where do the normal Lords get their troops?

They go recruiting.

I had Bashestur form his own party and after a while I told him that he could go do as he wishes(or free to go or something)
Then he went off and never came back. It's been a very long time now.
Did I actually, while he still had his own party, dismiss him as my mercenary.., like he'll never come back to one of my castles or listen to me?
I thought that was just to tell him that he didn't have to follow me anymore and mind his own business as a lord!

Could it be possible that he got captured by bandits and is still roaming around with them as prisoner?

Companions cannot be captured.  Period.  They will always escape as they blend in easier than the notable Lords.  Chances are he's just off fighting or recruiting or patrol'ing.  If your kingdom is small he'll visit nearby friendly castles as well.  If he's defeated and escapes he'll show up again with a sizable army a couple days later.

Battle Moral:
Battle Moral affects if your or the enemy soldier are going to run away or not. If one side gets really low battle moral that side is most likely to run away, making them vulnerable for attacks.
Things that effect the battle moral is:
How many enemy soldiers you kill.
?Fill me in please
?Fill me in please

Battle morale is also effected by the amount of troops a side loses, as well as the tier of those troops. aka a fallen Paladin will have a greater impact on morale than an Acolyte.

If people want they can fill in their own tactic guides and the best of them will be added and credited in my little bigger guide.

Tactics I want to see is:

Starting tactics - The first thing you do when starting a new char, it could vary from: companions, equipment, stats, factions, quests and etc)

Battle tactics - What do you do before and during combat, it could vary from: Where do you fight, landscape usage, units, different tactics for different enemy and situation and etc)

Economy tactics - How you make your well earned cash, it could vary from: arena, quests, raiding and looting or simply just trading and etc)

Companion tactics - How you equip your companions, how you use them and what skill the different companions gets.

Remember your tactic have to be of the newest version of Native Expansion, well written and spell checked.

Here is a quick little rundown of what I did to start my character.  I basically decided to focus first on making money, then on combat skills.  As the main character I can make up for lower character skills with better player skills.  Hope this helps someone else out

Here is the background story I select:

A travelling merchant
A Shop Assistant
A Goods Peddler
Wanderlust

This is the skills you start with:

Ironflesh 2
Power Strike 2
Riding 3
Pathfinding 2
Inventory Management 3
Prisoner Management 1
Leadership 3
Trade 4

This is where I spent my Attributes:

3 Points into CHA
1 Point into INT

This is where I spent my Skills:

2 Points into Trade
1 Point into Riding
2 Points into Pathfinding
1 Point into Prisoner Management
3 Points into Looting

Max Polearms then spend other Proficiencies on skill of choice.

Use the "Assess the local prices" option and start trading.  When you have enough money purchase a Heavy Charger and a Balanced Jousting Lance.

Start going after Ruthless Bandit parties and charge through them with the lance.  You will start Making money hand over fist between loot, trading, and prisoners.  You should still be trading as much as possible.  Shop around in the small villages because you can often find some insanely cheap goods.

As you level pump CHA to 27 and max out Trading and Leadership.  Bump Prisoner Management to 3 or 4, Increase Ironflesh (Powerstrike is optional since you are usually doing insane amounts of Couched and Charging damage).  Path-finding can go up to 5.

Once CHA is maxxed start putting points into STR until you hit 20, then pump AGI a bit to allow for better Looting.  Once all of the other Attributes are at an acceptable level for you start pumping INT for the double skill points.

I didn't take many companions at first, I picked up a few strong rescues, but I kept my party small.  You should also be looking out for tournaments as much as possible.  You can pick up a hero companion and start them on the medic path.

I'm at day 86 on this build with 200k denars, Lordly Plate armor (20 head, 70 body, and 40 legs or something equally rediculous) Some beefed out Knights helm with around 68 to head, Plate Leggings with 40 armor to leggings, an awesome Jeweled sword and a powerful Warhammer (For prisoner taking when a lance isn't feasible).  I've got a solid party of heroes including Alyssa, Thorgrim, and the dude that was in Alyssa's company (Can't remember his name).  I do quests in various towns and cities, but stay away from any quests that give me a negative against another faction.  My relation with all factions is positive at this point, so I can basically travel wherever I please.  I've turned down at least one offer of vassalage from each of the faction leaders.

I'm at the point now where I have a pretty strong core army - ~40 Ivory Guards, ~40 Ivory Archers, ~40 Rhodok Captains, 6 heroes (Cavalry), and 8 Lady Knights

I'm just waiting for an offer of vassalage from Vaegirs and I'll be good to go

You can get lords by recruiting companions\heroes and the talking to them at the party management screen and tell them to make their own raiding party or
You can capture other faction lords and make them prisoner and then destroy\defeat their whole kingdom(you get notified when you have taken over all the fiefs and towns and all lords are prisoners) and then you just have to sit, wait and pray a bit for one of the captured lord wants to join you

Hope that helped? If not try to explain more what you want

thanks a lot for this great guide. The extra features of native expansion can be a little bewildering, especially without documentation, and this makes the transition a lot nicer and smoother.

edit: I would like to see more info about the features of native expansion. Like how to control vassals, companions with their own parties etc.

Also, the newer versions of native expansion have changed vaegir swordsmen to elite infantry (i.e. troop tree is now slightly, technically wrong)

Great guide to a great mod, thanks a lot for all the work you put into this!

I have a problem though, and I was hoping someone here could maybe help me.

I followed your guide on starting your own faction, and I just got to the part where I change the name of my faction, you know, where's the fun in controlling the world under some standardized name  .. and I changed the part that said Change_this_to_your_kingdom_name, along with the correct number. When I tried to load my game again, it froze while loading setting data, and I got this message:

It happens every time I try to load that savegame now, and changing it back to how it was before I edited it the first time doesn't do anything for me.
Help! I've obviously done something stupid, I just have no idea what it could be! :???:

Northern_raider:Norsk viking på fære?

Well I would suggest you just simply patch the game to get a new fresh troops.txt file and see if the problem reaccur then.
If it doesn't it may suggest that you done something wrong with the faction name editing. You got to be carefull with spaces and etc.
Give me a feedback when you tried:wink:

Coruskane: Thank you  Well I guess I have to sit down one boring night and just plow through all the features and add them to my guide:wink: And I shall try to update the troop tree asap  I currently only base the troop tree on the same info found sticky on the sub forum

Ironmann: Klart det, godt å se andre vikinger i færd med å erobre verden

I figured out what I had done wrong, I had actually forgotten the "name" part after the name of my kingdom, pretty embarrassing
I really shouldn't be trying to edit any text files at 2 in the night, it seems.

Anyways, works like a charm now, thanks a lot for your help!

Races to go to war...
There are easyer races and bad races...

easyest race to go to war with.... Rhodocs if you do not charge trough them (i just hate the spearwall and charge trough them anyway)
The crosbowman are lame in sieges facing ivory archers, and with small exceptions the AI does not concentrate archers, but infantery. Just snipe them from the distance

Second best. Vaegirs . They have huge amounts of infantery without spears. Chargers should do the trick... Sieges are worse ... but not that bad... The loot is great thow

Third pick: Swadians... they are tough... but not tough enough as they still have huge amounts of useless infantery to charge trough. Or to snipe... Excelent loot.

forth (worse wars) NORD... Crappy loot, All of them are archers... They actualy kicked me out of some of the castles during sieges. The ammount of life makes them survive anything but headshots... Easyer to kill in the field...

Worse choice... KHERGITS...  Hard to fight them.. even harder to take their castles... Smaller life, Better loot, Deadly arhers... legions of them. To be fought only after you have defeated the vaegirs (you will nead the Ivory Bows...)

You should add a "Did you know...?" Part. For example, I had no idea having horses in inventory increased the map travel speed.
