Lol I like Gildin Arnad a lot better, perhaps your Kingdom of Butwipe and my kingdom should have a jousting competition eh

But in all seriousness I didn't know you can change your own name. Is it through an in game function or do I need to edit a text file?

It's not a specific function of NE being able to change your character name, you should be able to do it in Native as well.

You can do it in Native and you can click your face to change your appearance as well I believe...

How do I go about training my men if I'm at the start of the game? (edit: I know about training ground, just wondered what method people use with building armies).

Even outnumbering the enemy 2:1 they will get slaughtered against bandits and mercenaries because they're badly equipped and they're just peasants. And my trouble is, once your forces get any larger you're too slow to outrun these roving bands so you just continually lose moral, troops, money and your own stuff if you get captured. I amassed 70 troops which you'd think even if they're awful you can throw them at say 25 mercenaries and win due to sheer numbers - correct, most of the time. But the damage you take from such a battle means you're easy prey for other nearby enemies, and it's kind of a vicious cycle.

I know the mod is meant to be difficult and I appreciate the challenge as well as all the additions of the mod, but it seems a bit unbalanced having such large roaming troops - it would be better if their composition and numbers was more variable so you could avoid the larger groups and attack smaller ones.

Sea turtles mate, Sea turtles....
Training ground is good for the first two tiers, but after that you'll have to train them in real combat. You're going to loose most of your men, but some will make it. That's life. Just don't battle mercenaries. That would be pretty bad  I also suggest upgrading your training skill, since it greatly improves the speed your units level up.

i suggest upgrading your companions trainer skill, remove clashes between them and that's it, or try recruiting kelemvor asap

Okay thanks for the tips. For my own purposes I reduced the minimum size of the bandits down to around 10 so that there were more battles to get stuck into with raw recruits. That worked, more battles, more chances to train troops in combat.

Would it be possible (using Morgh's editor or something else) to add party types to the game and have them show up? I was thinking that I could duplicate the current bandit/mercenary types, and have some with minimum 5, some with minimum 15, or different troop compositions, just to give more of them on the map. Or does adding more of them require scripting to make them populate the world map?

Hi, i have three questions about the troops of the Holy Swadian Empire.
-When i recruit initiates from swadian villages i can upgrade them to proselytes then to acolytes but then i can only recruit them to infantry but i want them to become squires. Why can i only recruit them to infantry?
-How can i recruit crusaders or paladins? I have Knight-Commanders but i can only recruit Knight-Lords (almost the same recruit thing like above). The only way to get paladins or crusaders is to free them from enemies but in your Troop Tree (which i really like!) you can get them by developing Knight-Commanders.
-When i free paladins from enemies i can recruit them to crusaders but in your Troop Tree its the other way. Why that?

There are many, many other troops i cannot recruit but i don't know why  Why is my Native Expansion mod so buggy? Or do i always do something wrong?  Can someone help me please?

P.S.: If you think i used strange words, i must say that the English language is not my first language!

it seems that you are playing native expansion for mount and blade, not warband, there were more units such as knight-lords you mentioned, but every nation has its own 3 troop trees

first is peasant - common, there don't have to be any sort of cavalry, mostly archers and infantry

second is noble - available to recruit from towns while you are lord or king, they are strong

third is elite - best warriors of the faction, nothing can stop them, they are recruited from special building in capital or from other town when special building is built, they come in small numbers

noble cant be upgraded to elite, same peasant cant become noble

Also:
To be able to recruit nobles, you have to be a noble yourself.a lso, you get them from cities, not villages.
To get the elite troops, you have to own a city and build the special building there.

I've visited every town and castle under my rule (95% done conquering Sarranid Sulante for my first land) and none of them have any kingdom management options. Is this a glitch, or am I missing something?

That's extremely weird...

I've got another extremely noob question that I actually can't find out now. How do I build the thing that lets you recruit special troops for your faction? For example, the Eunuchs for the Sarranid, or the Ivory Archers for the Vaegirs.

You need a town of your own and you need to be faction leader. The option will be under the buildings menu.

I had some questions and read this guide and it answered them, it's well done, thanks!

One thing I haven't answered for myself though is about the formations - specifically using the wedge formation.  These special formations seem to be applied to all your units.  Is there a way to apply them to specific unit types?  I'm thinking here about telling cavalry to go into the wedge for a charge.
