Ireland can be a interesting subject, though you may want to mix a few time periods together to get the most variety. (using some ancient types mixed with latter, base it in a older ireland but go ahead and have christianity perhaps in one section, causing them to have slightly different troops.)

In terms of factions you could have Munster (southwest ireland) Lienster (South East) Ulster (North East) and Connaght (North West) at war, possibly add in the scotti in the far north west.

Ireland also has some history with military orders and mercenaries, like the Red Branch and the Fianna, which could be used to make the troops far more diverse.

Just some thoughts, i would assuredly be willing to play it if made.

Send me a pm if you have any idea's  what i can do for the mod
*is doing hell alot of research to see what ppl want x.x *

are you sure you will get enough factions? what about scottish tribes, since they originated from ireland any way. If you're pressed you could use the britons and hell, even the Pics!

i could be a  bleep and put about 80 difrent factions with out  mythical creatures and those are just the difrent clans mate
so don't tell me i won't have enough factions, plus i got time to work on it ^^ i'm only a beginner and research goes before making and then there is making it properly

Yes, but can you make the clans different enough to make them seperate factions?
i do supose every clan has it's set of dialects and standerd /costomized  weaponary and armor
i might me a sword for one clan abit better then the same sword of another clan
ontop of that there is a huge chance i'm not even going to be able to make the mod ...

I like how you included yet in that. I hope you complete it I wouldn't mind seeing some Irish kerns getting squashed by the scotti's.

lol yeah thanks i'm still doing the look up work and it's making me depressed since most info is to be found in ireland self and now where i am ... ok alot of sites but i still have to check them with other sites to see if facts are true and so on and so forth ... so yah still stuff to look up ey

This could be very interesting man, especially with some firearms, if you decide to include a more recent timeframe (XV and XVI centuries I believe, I'm not sure when gunpowder was introduced in Irish military). In MTW2 I had lots of fun playing the Irish in the expansion pack with both rifleman and mounted rifleman as units.

no fire arms that would kinda ruin mythical factors ...

I'll surrender my status as a lurker because I thought this thread could do with an irish 2 cents.
If your looking for faction suggesttion and I know that they have been done to death in other mods, but the vikings have been lurking around the coast of Ireland since about the 8th century. I'm no expert on this period of Irish history but there have been plenty of battles between various kings of the provinces to take inspiration from although sources are a bit hazy. And the thought of fighting the battle of Clontarf gets me all excited.
Whether or not to use the more mythical stories of irish history is a different matter.
The idea of Fionn mac Cumhaill and the Fianna battling the armies of Brian Boru seems a little off, mythical or not the time frame is way off. But it could be written in as alt history somehow, it would be cool if done well.
I'd love to see all the old mythical weapons translated to M&B.
I know you don't want one with firearms, but if ya did I'd love to get a shot at Oliver Cromwell.

Also without a shadow of a doubt it needs a camán/hurley as a blunt weapon, anyone from a hurling county would have gotton a belt of one of these and will know what I'm on about.

That's a modern one, the old ones would look more like a modern field hockey stick.

It sounds good...but I would rather see a mod focused on the Easter Rebellion.

EDIT:Here's a nice little map I found on Wikipedia that shows the regions that Ireland was divided into.

Be sure to Include one of my ancestors as the King of Ulster.

Brian mac Reamoinn, 1496–1497
Glaisne Og mac Reamoinn, 1521–1551?
Art Maol mac Reamoinn, 1551–1560

If you choose to make a mythical faction, the best choice you could make would be to use the Fae. The Norse were a large factor on Irish people, so as other factions you could go with Celtic, Gaelic , Norse, Saxon, and maybe the Picts.
