Investment and money shortage

I am just curious how many people use the treasurer function of investing money?

I have only done it a couple of times in my game with just 1000 denars and both time got a return of 1200 about 4-5days later
With all the buildings in SoD and the high troop upkeep for keeping garrisons and armies of troops money always seems to be an issue in my game - which I actually really like! I am constantly fighting bandit parties for items to sell and use a heavy spiked mace in most battles to try to get prisoners - just to make ends meet.

What sort of experiences have ppl had with investment etc. or money hardships?

I have increased revenue from caravans and farmers so I'm not having much of an issue there. It's enough to stay in plus but not enough to get filthy rich easy.

As I've made regiments able to attack bandits, I got quite a few of those around as well, which drains my money quite well.

At first money was VERY tight. I only had 4 castles and a town and I was running around with 300 mid tier units. Luckily one of my castles had 180 prisoners from defending against a siege and killing a few lords, so I went from having 2k and paying 5k a week to having 50k! I am now down at 20k becuase I build lots of imporvements. I also have all of the nord kingdom. Right now I pay about 4k a week and get around 6k. (damn relation is at -70)

Youve got that slave trader guy in your game paying out 250 per prisoner tho dont you?
I've just been getting into prisoners more lately, knockin alot of guys out with a mace

I tried the investment system twice, once i invested 5k, got 6k-ish

but the second made me stay AWAAAAAAAAY form that system

i invested 50k i had (everything), so im down to 0, i go raid bandits, lords, etc etc, till i gather enough to pay the wages, then the report about the investment failure

Well, one's might expect i get NOTHING, but instead of not giving me anything for the failure, the game decides to TAKE AWAY 60k, (tho i had only 6k, so the damage wasnt THAT big)
so, the game took away 110k o_O

ouch thats nasty!
I might stay away from investment too then haha
Without the investment thing, I think money is about the right challenge to get hold of at the moment anyway

Yea I'm thinking there is a bug there.

I just tested with 15k and I lost another 6k on top of that 15k.

My guess is that the mistake is that it subtracks from your total instead of the original investment.

As stated, raiding villages and selling prisoners works well.

Though I find that simply selling captured lords go a long way, especially if you don't try to deck out your companions in high-end armor. In my latest game I took Tilbaut castle and have been fighting the Swadians and the Vaegirs since the beginning. Captured both Yarogir and Harlus, 12k and 10k respectively. I still have over a dozen lords moaning in my dungeons, plus minus what I sell and capture. Bring forth the gold.

12k and 10k! the most I ever get is 3k for a king!

I also got 12k and 10k in my game for Ragnar and Harlus the first time, I'm pretty sure from previous games the amount drops heaps the second time tho.
My companions are all decked out in the few good drops I've got from looting + I occasionally buy some decent weapons. Im only about 120 days in and still conquering stuff and paying out alot for buildings, I plan to spend some time looting villages and farming raiders later on to try to get some better gear for me and my companions

Ouch... It might be that... Though I created it to work like:

Investment begins, you invest X amount of money. Then the chance is calculated. If the chance is "C" the game takes random number "N". Then it's C minus N equals R (result). Then it should take X * R% = IR (Ivestment Result) then this IR is added to or subrstracted from X and then the X is added to Your wealth. There must be a small mistake in code somewhere.

For some reason I only get around 2-3k for selling lords, even kings. Is this only happening to me? In vanilla I used to get 4-8k.

2-4k for regular lords, over 10k for kings. Not captured kings a second time so it might as well drop for all I know.

Forgot to mention that engineering is an absolute must, in case someone have neglected it. Aside from cutting down on the buildtimes, it lowers the cost as well. Might not seem worth the reduction in price for one or two settlements, but when you are building up a dozen or more at a time, it makes a tremendous difference.

On my current game I went as far as making my own character the main INT guy, with most of the +1 books. Having 8+1, or a solid 10, in engineering and surgery sure makes conquering the world a wee bit easier.

I have noticed the amount of ransom you get for faction lords drops in both native and SoD. For the first 5 or so lords you sell for a particular faction the amount you get is roughly based on their renown, so for the better faction lords they sometimes give you 4-5k, but after 5 or so lords (of that faction), the ransom price drops down to 2-3k, until after ransoming back 10 or so lords its levels out at about 1.2 -2.4k. Assumably this is the faction starting to run lower on cash, at least thats wat I always assumed.

The 12k and 10k I got for Ragnar and Harlus were early on, my first 5 ransoms for those factions, so this might explain why some ppl get less initially for the kings (if they ransom them after they have already sold alot of lords to that faction)

The game dialogue for selling a lord to an enemy faction assumes it's the lord's family that pays the ransom, so that would make even more sense.

Yea I have to admit in my first game of M&B (native) I set a lot of lords free to raise my honor, but that only seemed to (very slightly) help when king Ragnar (the giant pillick!) decided whether to give me the property, I had just taken or not. In SoD I am always strapped for cash so sell em all, I think i have 5 honor, anyone know of any reasons honor might still be useful in SoD? (I think every lord in the gamer is + or - honor and likes you if you are similar, dunno if this applys to your own lords tho?)

What i do to get cash is own a Town with all villages around it
and i start to invest in the first 50-70 days you have a rough time low taxes and
i build all buildings but the moste important is i pay for all events liike poulation boom
and and the negative like rats and there ilk. Always the expensiv alternativ.
so after these days you have a population of 12000-14000. And then set to regular
taxes and you get about 18000-22000 denars a week.
