Inventory: super slots

Before post it, I did search this forum for suggestions and ideas about weapon slots and inventory screen and some other little things. So, in this post I want to integrate the ideas like and the ideas I have about how to make M&B more interesting and realistic without making it too hardcore (it's a game, isn't it? So it shouldn't become work.)

First of all: inventory screen. Next is the list of what slots (I think) should be on it.
Common slots:
1. Helm
2. Armor (body)
3. Armor (legs) - Divided for more customising, explane later.
4. Gloves - very nice idea - thanx to Armagan
5. Boots
6. Horse - I please devs about upgradeble horses so I could finally have not black horse with big charge
7. Horse armor - will be useful if idea about upgradeble horses will be implemented
8. Food - more food please. People can eat even furs, if there are nothing else
Weapon slots:
1. Right hand - you can carry any weapon here, and this weapon will be in your hands when you enter the battle
2. Left hand - carry something to block with (any 1-handed weapon,if it will be implemented, or shield), or something for exchange with primary weapon when it has no use (like blunt weapon when you knocked the noble, 1-handers or throwing weapon can be puted in here), or nothing (if you have 2-hander as primary weapon)
3. Belt (if your armor has it) - 1- or 2-handers, throwing weapons
4. Arms (if your armor has some pockets, etc.) - small throwing (daggers, knives), 1-handers with reach less than 50 (that you can't block with)
5. Legs - same as 4.
6. Back - shields, 1- or 2-handers, bows, x-bows, arrows, bolts, javelins, jarids, throwing axes, no polearms (ONLY STAFFS)
7. Back 2 - same as 6 but no shield, and if you put here some arrows, bolts, or throwing, it's amount will be added to the amount you have in 6
8. Horse saddle left - any weapon or ammo (if its empty, you can put here you polearm when changing weapon)
9. Horse saddle right - same as 8.

If you don't have a weapon slot avaliable when change weapons, you can throw your weapon and take it from the ground later. For EXAMPLE: you have sword and shield in hands, mace on belt and javelins (2 packs) on back. So if you want to pull ranged weapon you put your sword and shield on your back exchanging them with javelins.
And for you can have less amount of missles with such system, wounds and bleeds would be welcomed.
Of course, you can put weapons in every slot, but it will cost you some speed becouse of weight.
By the way, how about 2-daggers fighting so you can parry enemy weapons (not block, of course)?
Such organization, I think, should give more abilities to player for customize his battle equipment, and save abilities we have now. Critics welcomed. I apologize if all of this ideas was posted before and I did with search less than should. And sorry for my english.

I've played games before where your ammo count depends upon many different placed where ammo can be stored. I like the idea of having many small pokets filled with small daggers rather than having one bag of daggers. So long as the inventory does not become overwhelming with too many different things this would work nicely.

You should really have to drop a lance when you don't want it anymore. Unless there's a saddle clip type thingy!

Yarr... Me encumberance be's a-tree hundred an' fitty... arr..

But in all seriousness, I gotta say that I like the idea, have always wanted to have super-massive quantities of slots on my character, so good job making it all fit realistically like this. However, I think slots in obscure places, like arm pockets, and stuff.. should be very limited or rare. Seriously, what are the chances of a guy in battle hiding a stiletto up his sleeve? That's pretty damned sneaky, almost makes me think of some crazy cartoon ninja action... Still, I've got to say that's a pretty damned cool idea, and I hope that if we're not able to do it on our own with future mod tools, maybe Armagan will implement it. Heh, I can't imagine how many weapons i'd have to cycle through to get the right one, though. ]

Thinking....

Maybe you could get a blacksmith to put slots into your armor, like placing a dagger sheath into your gloves, ready to be pulled out at a momen't notice, or maybe just placing a whole whack of leather loops and fastenings over your character's armour, making him able to carry a nice sampling of the whole faction's arsenal nicely and securely. Obviously this would cost some pretty big numbers, but hey, what else have you got money to spend money on? Borcha and Marnid?! Hah, good luck.

hi all,

i like the idea. it could add another dimention to the chr development that we all seem to want so badly.

Only two slots for the back??
i could easily think of someone carrying a sword, a quiver and a crossbow on his back.

But i'm all for more realistic inventory management.

I like the idea in general. However, I think that if someone had ALL of those slots occupied, they'd have a very hard time moving at all on the battlefield. Pray they don't get dehorsed! I guess as long as the encumbrance system is extended to all of these "slots" I'd be for it.

Ok, actually I think that adding in more armor differentiation, especially horse armor, would really be an interesting addition.
I am somehow not so excited by the ability of carrying your entire inventory on yourself, although I would not mind at all if encumberence is implimented.
I mean, if encumberence is implimented, like jr said, you would not be able to stand up if your horse falls ::razz: (And I think the horses would complain as well)

Imagine trying to scroll through 9 weapons to get to the one you want to take out ::razz:

And another thing, since the game doesnt really SHOW the equipment you carry in physical 3D, imagine what it would look like in reality ::grin:

Ok enough fun for the night lol..
Nice horse though no? ::razz:

omg that's funny and it actually makes a point!

1) The weapons should be visible
2) You can carry as much as you want, as long as it stays realistic

I definately think it should be implemented like this (the topic starter way), and in addition to that visible weapons.. I'd love pulling out my sword from my hip, or a spear from the back etc..

Any dev comments on this?

edit: Look at the tiny butt with the weapons coming out of it  LOL

Have you read this by any chance or do great minds just think alike? Needless to say, I'm all for this idea.
I did read your thread and it gives some very good ideas. So thanx!
That's not a plagiat, that's just a compilation.

Glad you enjoyed it.. Was going to add another one with the guy trying to find the right weapon in his arsenal, but decided against it (since I'm too darn lazy)..
I'm not too sure how much memory the weapons being shown would eat up.. Currently quivers on the back of archers ARE shown, even when they wield different weapons, but for swords n stuff may probably have to be carefully thought out..

P.S. Btw, switched to 'photobucket', so dunno how long the images would stay for since they have a really crappy bandwidth limitation regarding forums (or so I hear)..

Excellent idea. I'm all for it, as long as there is some sort of weight limit, so that you cant carry some dozen heavy weapons with you.

Or just limit the size of some of the slots, for example, you shouldn't be able to carry a 2 handed sword on your belt'n'such.

Weight limit might be of use aswell, unless you want to carry swords on both hands, third in belt, poleaxe in back, some daggers in pockets and few bags of bolts for your crossbow. Oh, lets not forget heavy armor.

I would prefer to have realistic limits, ie. not allowing a player to tie a sword to his belt just doesnt make sense..
To be honest however, I am perfectly happy with the current system, and personally think that the only aspect which COULD be worked upon is the armor slots / system.. ::smile:

Regarding weapons, what WOULD be good is mouse - wheel support, so you can switch between weapons faster than currently, as well as maybe a small icon stating WHAT weapon you switched to (since you won't know if you are looking at an awkward angle, which happens more than often during combat)

Mouse wheel support would be good, for sure. I also like the icon thing...there have been times where I accidentally shot my own troop when I thought I had a sword readied.
