Inventory/Prisoner management skills?

Hello all
With my present char, I have 1 point in both Inv. and Prisoner management.
I have to admit that I am now tempted to add a second point in Inventory management...
it seems that it could be useful.
And for you, how many points in Inventory/Prisoner management skills do your character usually have?

I usually have quite a few in inventory management, because it helps hold all the swag I earn after battles.

I don't put more than one or two points in prisoner management, because after the initial start of the game, there's no real need to capture prisoners to sell them.

I find that 1 in each is quite enough. If you start with 6 intelligence, put 2 into inv. management, but if you are a squire and start with 4 int., wasting two statpoints just for convenience's sake is not worth it.

At present, with IM 3 or higher you can usually loot more from a battlefield than you can sell at a nearby town (at medium levels, especially including loading up your companions with loot, because merchants have limited cash).

In practice, soldiers looted small personal items that could be sold on, or weapons/armour that they could use for themselves and discarded everything else as it just added weight/bulk and slowed them down/made them less efficient in the next battle of the campaign.  Towns local to battlefields would usually end up with a glut of looted weapons/armour collected by peasants, scavengers and camp followers which would drive the price down (which is not currently modelled).

It really depends upon your playing ethic though. If you're just out to make loads of money then carrying a load of loot and trailing a large prisoner train around is going to help to some extent but will make you more vulnerable to ambush by bandits/raiders as you will be slow and unable to run as easily as if you play as a pared down war band.

Remember, every point spent on IM/PM is a point not spent on combat/travel skills, at low levels it may be more important to win easily or run from costly battles instead of worrying about loot.

With a merchant warrior, I like to have a max capacity of 25 prisoners so I don't have to travel too much all the way from one of my castles to the nearest lord to sell me prisoner knights.

I believe I also have 3 points in inventory management, since it allows me to make the merchant quests without fulling all my free slots. Once you get grandmaster knight, the Hunt Down Raiders gets old and you need to rely on others quests to entertain you

I normally don't have more than 3 points in prisoners management. It's good to have 1 or 2 points in the beginning when the only enemy I can beat is river pirate. Loots are not as good as slaves. Once I have the ability to take one more formidable foe, like sea raider, I would normally need a more deadly weapon and the loots are usually much better than 15 slaves. No points for taking prisoners.

I always max out the allowed inventory management first (among all other skills related to Intelligent).

i dont seem to bother to loot too often...i have 3 points in IM. I think it is adequte space for now, but i always change my mind about this skill.

If you are using the recruit-from-prisoners mod, then PrisMgmt becomes much more significant. You may, for instance, be hauling around a few recruitable units as replacements [at no cost] and still need a little room for either salable prisoners or more reserves. Basically, if you use this mod, you can think of prisoner slots as unpaid party slots. If you plan to do this, you might consider NOT bumping leadership [keeping max party size smaller]. This is pretty nice as it maximizes your overall intellignce points.

I will check the next time I will level... I rolled a squire, if I remember right I have 4 INT only, does it allow me IM 1 or 2 max? (cant verify now, cause at work  )

Max skill is stat/3, round down to nearest whole.  Fractional bits don't count. You need a stat of 6-8 to get a skill of 2

IM is pretty important to me.  Prisoner management normally stays at 2 for ever.
I like to keep a couple of spare horses, and optional load-outs for armour and weapons, so that takes 9 or 10 slots straight off...

Yeah, gonna go with pretty much the same view as everyone else, inventory management is more important that prisoner management, and even then it still probably comes secondary to other skills.

I do, however have a second (hopefully on topic!) question, do you guys still use Marnid and Borcha as skill dumps, and if so, do you increase your skills in the respective categories to a passable level... say four or something to offset the way party skills are now calculated?

I find that it helps at the start to put a few points into the more essential areas (such as surgery, since leveling up m&b takes so damn long... especially Borcha)

I realise I could have searched and found a more relevant topic but..... this was along the right lines and I don't know how this forum feels about resurrecting old threads, so... if I did wrong please feel free tar and feather me and send me out of town riding backwards on an ass.

we'll do that anyway cos I had such a beautiful picture in my mind's eye when I read that

I like to have enough skills to be a 'stand-alone' but I do try and get M&B a bit of purpose.  Usually I'll keep surgery to myself but level up Marnid or Borcha with 1st aid and the other one which I've forgotten right now....

I usually start as a hunter or lady, and give myself riding, inv.mang, prisoner or trade, ironskin and power strike.  I up my intel by at least 1 point to get that extra skill.
Sometimes I will go for surgery, or leadership, as well.

Thanks, wound treatment is the name if I recall correctly.

Yeah I get what your saying.. never quite understood the point of (especially) first aid, doesn't really see to do anything except revive M&B, although I suppose I can see the use if I was playing a hero heavy mod like band of warriors. Oh well

And please be careful with the tar, I've got this awful rash from -last- time this happened

Normally I would have around 8 on Inv Management skills. Find it useful if you don't plan to return to town very often during hunting black knights and other expensive-loot-wielding enemies. BUT thats with a surgery skill of 15. On my 'mortal' character I play, around 5 is sufficient as I would have to go back to town to replenish troops often enough ::\

Mind - after battles I normally never loot any item valued 70denar and under, so obviously the more items you are planning on looting, the more inventory you need ::smile:
Also I would normally have 6 slots filled with horses, and 6 more filled with other weapons and armor I switch to (for roleplaying reasons) so thats 12 un-usable slots right there ::\

Unless I'm going to join a side I only get 1 prisoner mangement. Like Volkier I use inventory management for extra horses, extra weapons, and the rest for loot. I start with 3 as soon as possible, and may take it up to 4 or 5 if I feel the need too become a looter.

I usually don't inveset much in IM, one or two points usually seem enough. PM is much more important if you want tons of money.

I like 2 of each... gives me just enough prisoners in case a lord wants me to capture 6 something-or-others, and just enough space to do one or two 'gather this type of thing for me' missions if I want to.  As for loot, money comes in alot faster than exp or soldier upgrades, so I prefer skills that help me keep my party alive (SURGERY and battle skills)

Oh but you waste time that way! See, the lord may only want six prisoners, but if you capture a dozen of them, you can store the extra ones in your castle, and next time the lord asks you to capture some you just fetch them.
