Okay, I've been having some technical difficulties. This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time, but recently the occurrences have been much more often. I'm running Vista Home Premium on a laptop that I've had for several months now. The problem is, that occasionally my internet will stop working. In fact, the connection changes from "Local and Internet" to "Local Only". It will stay like that for a few minutes, or until I disconnect and reconnect. Now, it either does that, or the connection just...stops. It either says "Limited Connection", or still says "Local and Internet", but just doesn't work.

I know it isn't my laptop, it works perfectly fine elsewhere. I'm pretty sure it's not my router, and I know it's not my provider. There's about 30 feet and one wall between my laptop and the router, so I'm not in a weak spot. I am almost certain the problem is Vista-related for two reasons. I searched the internet for hours (or, minutes at a time, as the ****ing internet wouldn't work for long enough), have found that it's not an incredibly uncommon problem, and people think the cause is Vista. That, and Vista is the only remaining reason. I only have Service Pack 1, and I'm thinking that's the cause. I'm not upgrading with Windows 7 so close to release though.

Has anyone had this problem? I've tried all the "fixes" people suggest on other forums and such. Nothing works for me, or for others either. It went away for a period of about a month, then has come back, and is now trying to make up for all the lost time. I had to disconnect/reconnect twice to finish this post. So, anyone?

I also had the same problem.  I had to reset my IP (I think thats all I had to do)

As a follow up, I'm pretty sure I fixed this. I disabled "User Account Control". And now it works great.

Then again, I thought I've fixed it twice before, only to have it fail. Hope this one works.

Make sure it's your computer first, see if this problem persists when you use another wireless network, like one at a university, library, or a friend's.

Not to be blunt or rude...but I literally said that in the first sentence of the second paragraph of the original post. And after several hours of perfect access, this works.

You may now find that saved games and some of your files vanish for no apparent reason and won't come back until you turn UAC back on again though. Vista doesn't like it when you turn UAC off.

That's why I replaced Vista. It has a mind of it's own.

Everything would be fine, if it wasn't a diabolically evil mind.

That doesn't sound fun. I pretty much play only two games anyways, and both M&B and Football Manager have worked fine since I turned it off. I just have to run them as an administrator, and the saves are there. But if it means giving me uninterrupted internet access, I really don't care.
