For the player? Umm, why? If you're talking about maybe minstrels in the taverns or something like that, yeah, that might be a nice touch. Only once the game gets to the point of adding the little final touches though, if then.

Some of the instruments would be made so that you could use them and some in the tavern where a bard would play them.

Would be kinda fun if orders in battle were implemented by blowing a horn.... Other than that, I can't see the point.

YEEESSSS AAHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEEESSSS.

/me resumes normal procedures.

Right.

If I want to play something, I grab my guitar.

Though I must admit that this is far the most unique suggestion so far. At least from what I've seen.

Different types of musicians can have different effects on troops, raise morale, berserk attack, run like ****....

D&D player? Bards (from D&D) wouldn't fit into the feel of M&B, in my opinion.

The instruments wouldn't be a bad idea, if as Janus stated, it was for minstrels in taverns and such.

Nahh, but how about the battle songs, to be sung before battle and/or when marching? I'm pretty sure that should raise the morale, and be realistic too.

And oh yeah, I wanna have some other rituals - including torturing prisoners and un-obediant soldiers - before battle too - will they actually raise the troops' morale or not.

Thats kind of what i was thinking, once morale is implemented. But i would like to avoid the "bard" approach.

Nope, never played it in my life. Warhammer player, Musicians and Tristan the Troubador.

Instruments were really used to increase morale of troops, increase their rate of travel, etc.

Very good suggestion. I think it would be very cool just to be able to pick up instruments and screw around with them.

You can pick up instruments and screw around with them in real life. Go to a music shop and mess around, it's quite a lot of fun. However, I don't see how that makes it belong in a video game. We play video games because we cannot do the things that we can do in these games... We play M&B because none of our friends want to joust with us. We play Starwars games because we can't afford our own space ship. We play the sims cause we can't get a girlfriend in real life.

Although i've never played a musical instrument in a video game, i assume it's 100 times less fun than messing around in real life.

LoL at the sims remark
We're not necesseraly talking about *playing* those instruments, we're talking about having them in the game.

*Horns marking the arrival of reinforcements in battle*
*Horns marking the passing of command to your troops*
*War Drums in tournaments*
*Bard's playing a mandolin in the tavern* (and telling you the latest gossip)
