By recruiting other lords,talk to them in private.You should have good relationship with each of them if you want to persuade a lord to defect.Another way is making some of your companions into vassal but make sure they are high-leveled and well equipped,because you won't be able to change this things after!beny1999 说:I feel so stupid saying this but:
How do you appoint vassals to your kingdom? I've got 5 unassigned fiefs/towns but i have no idea how to make new vassals.
To make your companions vassals you need to talk to them via your Party Window and ask if they want a fief.
Once they are enfeoffed, you give them more fiefs through your minister (who must be your wife or a companion, not the "local noble" who is just a placeholder). This is also how you give other NPC lords fiefs once they have defected to you.
