Does any one know how to claim villages that don't come with a castle? The only hostile actions are loot and force them to give you supplies.

I don't want the villages for my self since they are more costly then profitable at the moment. I guess a very long term investment. 6k and 45 days to make a mill and only getting 300 a week will take a long time to make the money. I find my self fighting tournaments constantly to upgrade my villages, pay my garrison and troops. Plus 50 troops go through huge amounts of food. I need a lot better inventory management because food is taking up 1/3.

Also, how big and what quality of an army do I need to take a major city and does battle size effect my troops xp? I find I loose a lot of troops on larger battles and keep it at 25 most of the time. However I can max the slider if it levels my troops faster.

Villages that don't belong to a castle belong to a town.

If you wana take a town have **** loads of good troops and decent level leadership. If you are attacking by your lonesome hit the castle repeatedly with your parties until you break them. So I guess you should theoretically have more troops than the garrison to effectively take them out but it is not necessary.

train some nord huscarls, and some veteran archers.  tell the archers to stay put outside the walls so they will shoot the people on top, and have the huscarls charge.  the defenders will crumble

That's what I'm using now, I'm part of the light blue kingdom, Rhodoks reminds me of Alpine people so I joined them. Luckily we keep the peace with the nords so I can recruit their troops. I grab about 40-50 at a time and reun them through battles, upped the battle size which does level troops faster. They get xp for the kill and the battle. Plus the battles go faster so I advance faster. Have about 10 Huscarls in my castle atm and 5 or so of the archers.
