Happy Birthday for our 90-year-old. Thanks for the day-off.

[Oh, this is of course about Finland being (more or less) independent since 1917. I wonder, do other counries celebrate their existing in the same way Finns do? In here it's almost as naff as Chrismas nowdays.]

Well done Finland!

Yes, we have an 'independence day' too, where we celebrate becoming our own government instead of being under English rule (we call it federation day though)

Happy birthday Finland.

Well at least in the US independence day is just an excuse to get drunk and party but we do celebrate it big time.

DON'T FORGET FIREWORKS!! We do the same **** in Canada, and it's one of the best nights of the year.

Didn't Finland lose a load of it's land in the Russian invasion in World War 2? (The Winter War or something)

Britain doesn't have an independence day, we gave 1/4 of the world theirs though, we're just so selfless and thoughtful.

*Sobs* Rulleee Britanniiaaa

We don't need independence. We just ****ing rock.
Besides. Give them a few decades and our empire will come crawling back

That, or the fact that the advent of aircraft has made the English practice of hiding behind the Channel irrelevant means you guys are in for a tough time...
_______________

However, happy Independence Day.

Ours is November 11th.

We celebrate with dancing, food, and singing. Most of our songs consist of how anybody who happens to be Russian is a scumbag, and anybody who happens to be ethnically Germanic is dirty and deserved a fierce arse-kicking. Racist? Yes. Nationalistic? Yes. Fun? Yes.

I'm assuming it's the same in Finland, except with more alcohol and sans the German part?

Because England got stomped during the Battle of Britain in WW2 and is actually Nazi occupied. Or wait, they dominated the air there too, right?

Edit: To be fair to my countrymen, a good chunk of the airmen there were Canadian volunteers (10-20% if my high school Canadian history serves me correctly.)

We won the Battle of Britain. That was an air combat.
We rule the seas, we rule the air, we have our army elsewhere though

Buggie, I wouldn't want to place the English navy up against the US or Russian. I'm no hardline army nut, that should be obvious, but those navies are huge.

As for the Battle of Britain, bug off, I wasn't referring to that. And that was a tooth and nail defense, that very well could have gone the other way.

Now shut it, and lets get back to discussing carousing Finns.

Judging by that, LL must be absolutely hammered by now...
