In addition to having better damage per hit, better ranged weapons should also have a higher effective range. This a bolt from sniper crossbow will travel faster (higher initial velocity) than a bolt from a cheaper hunting crossbow.

A higher intial velocity will mean hitting distant targets becomes easier with better ranged weapons. Besides it also would increase the realism of the game since arrow from a composite bow should travel faster than a arrow shot by a lower draw simple bow.

Hmm... But I suppose an archer who's been shooting all his life would get better ranges (so faster arrows, as you put it) with the same bow than some kind of farmer that has been sitting on his arse all his life watching the cows graze. :D

But since I never use bows, I can't really say if it's needed or not, I suppose the extra damage is already something :)

Isn't there already something like that in the game?

When I was a lvl 1 hunter, I had to aim further above my target's head compared to by the time I had reached lvl 20, where I was using a War Bow, and had 200+ weapon skill for bows. I was then able to shoot much more directly at my target than before, as the arrows seemed to be going straighter for longer.

Increased skill in ranged weapons just decreases the random distance from your aiming point and makes getting headshots much easier.
For low skill levels it's hard to get head shots since your missile tend to land far away from where you aim. This is why higher ranged weapon skill levels make it much easier to hit the target.

I am just saying that different ranged weapon should have different intial velocities. After all the main reason why composite bows are much more effective than simple bows, is arrows shot by composite bows have a higher velocity compared to arrows shot by simple bows.
So ranged weapons would have the following stats:
1. Damage per shot
2. Velocity (meters per second)
3. Speed

Isn't damage related in some way to velocity in this game anyway? Couldn't Armagan just use that system to revamp all the ranged/missile weaps? You could just work your way up to that 200lb. draw longbow that you practically aim right at someone all the way across the map. That would be awesome. Of course then power draw would actually mean draw power. Makes sense to me. The faster your missile, the more damage. You could even up the speed of the thrown weaps as your power throw went up to increase damage slightly on them too.

Right now it seems that bow and crowbow weapons travel at the same speed. I might be wrong.

In the new system better bows/crossbows would have the advantage of having a bigger "flat trajectory" region compared to worse "low velocity" ranged equipment. This would make it much easier to aim since you would only have to worry about the arc of shot at distant targets.

Considering the game already adjusts for range, except when zoomed in, this isn't exactly a hot topic in terms of aim.

However, it would be nice to have a war bow put that arrow on the target a lot faster than say a long bow (any other RL archers here?).

This gets into other realism issues...for example, almost every other bow in the middle ages had longer range than a long bow (one of the shortest ranged bows ever used), but only the long bow was effective against armor. An incident in the Crusades illustrated this...an army basically ignored the rain of arrows, and only when a bunch of knights decided to try to kill the archers did they suffer any casualties, and not from archers in any case. Now, if we could put things like that into the game, that would be cool...having bows that can hit a nail from across the map, but can't puncture armor...while a long bow won't go very far at all, but will blast right through Black Armor...
