"Incorrect serial" or timeout when authenticating serial *SOLUTION*

The game checks the Mount & Blade key rather than the Warband key, which if you haven't had 1.011 installed since you last reinstalled Windows will cause this problem because the key won't exist.

The quickest and easiest way to solve it is to install the latest Mount & Blade and activate it with your serial. You should then be able to play Warband

The harder fix (or if the above fails), is to edit the registry and manually enter your serial. *NOTE : I strongly suggest backing up the registry via file > export before you start mucking about in it*

Start > Run (or search on Vista) > Regedit (type and hit enter)

First thing to do is scan the registry for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> MountAndBladeKeys

If it doesn't exist you'll have to create it manually. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software and right click, then choose "New Key". Name it exactly (case sensitive) MountAndBladeKeys.

Select the MountAndBlade keys and over on the right you'll have either a blank pane (if newly created) or some values already. If serial_key already exists but is empty right click, edit and enter your serial code (complete with the dashes, eg XXX-XXX-XXX).
If the panel is blank, right click in it, choose new and then string value. Call it exactly serial_key. Then right click, edit and enter your serial key.

I tried add serail_key to both Mount&blade and Warband registry but it's still not working
My serial key used to work fine in 0.6xx. Any other suggestion ? ^^"

Same problem. Yes my key exists in regedit. I had no problem until the latest patch (0,711).

Weird, tried to start the game again right after this post and now it worked. I even tried to join the same server as before.

After some testing: Even if you have the correct key select "change/edit" on it and then press ok.

Similar Problem.  I bought the pre-order of warband for .802.  Everything worked fine regarding the authentication keys provided.  Now that Warband has upgraded to .850 the key I received from the pre-prder does not work and gives me the error:E-mail / serial number combination does not match with any beta tester information.Mount&Blade Warband Beta Test Download

Do I need to repurchase Warband?  I checked D2D and the download page is still .802... what action do I take from here?  Please help. Thanks.

I've entered my original M&B serial for the Warband MP Beta, and it works fine. But, I still get the prompt for single player and receive an "Activation Denied" error when I enter my key (version 1.011 of the original M&B is installed). I tried the manual activation, and that was denied as well. I can connect and play on the MP servers without any problem, but single player will only run in trial mode (and custom battles with the MP executable are apparently in trial mode as well; limited to 25 men per side, and Swadians/Vaegirs only).

Edit: This only became a problem with 0.850 for me, all the other versions going back to 0.5-something have worked fine.

My friend wanted to play the Warband Beta so I gave him my serial number for the regular and now whenever we play together one of us keeps getting kicked out. He wants to buy it now but he's unsure if this will happen if he purchases it tommorrow on its release. I bought the original but he did not, he is going to get the bundle when Warband comes out. Is there anyway that this can be fixed or is it because the serial number on two computers are the same? If this is against the rules I won't do it again but I don't know.

I just tried update from Warband Version 860 to the newest one, now the serial doesn't work and Activation Denied.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled both.  Deleted and reaadded the serial key to the MountandBladeKeys folder in Regedit but it doesn't work.

Any further tips here?

If your talking about the 1.0 version of Warband, you have to buy a new key for it. You can't just use your original M&B key like in the beta.

this isn't working to activate my Warband serial number, which I purchased from the TW site. I checked both M&B Keys, and M&B Warband Keys. Everything is in the right place. Please let us know what to do soon. I need to ride mounts, swing blades and lead my warband!

What kind of problem is there with the activation library prior to v1.105?  My activation gets denied if I try to activate over six times on the same PC with the same hardware hash.  Steam triggers a silent activation before the splash screen appears each time I use regedit and then delete HKCU\Software\MountAndBladeWarbandKeys from the registry.

Same here.  Yesterday evening all was well, but since this morning I have been getting either "Incorrect serial number" or "Unable to connect to server" error messages.

Looking at the player numbers on the server list, it appears that many others are suffering this problem as well.

I got the same probem.  Started last night with the incorrect serial, so  I re-installed.  Now I get no servers showing on the browser. 

Now the Taleworlds web page is down.
