For me, its hard having to go around to villages and taverns just to get 0-6 troops. Is there any other way to get troops?

I remember getting 20+ troops from a single visit before.  You just have to do quests for villages and get them to like you.

Defeat parties with large amounts of prisoners. You can add freed prisoners to your party. As joeman says, it's also a good idea to have a few villages you have a very good relationship with, since they offer you larger amounts of troops and the troops they give will often be higher level.

Okay, you try fighting a swadian knight and nord huscarl at the same time, tell me how that goes. (Just fought a dehorsed swadian knight and nord huscarl in a 2 on 1 battle) and as for your answer, just get village relations up, and sometimes you'll get a quest from someone to train some troops, just don't rely on that too much.

I forgot to add that you can persuade captured enemies you're holding prisoner to join your party. You can only try it once per day or thereabouts, and in my experience half of them seem to vanish into the night at the next opportunity. The best ways are villages and freeing prisoners held by enemies. Once you get a castle, it's a good idea to periodically leave most of your army in there and go out on a major recruiting tour to get a full stock of new soldiers. Train them up a bit then put them in the castle, get your proper army back and continue. That makes sure you have lots of replacements should you need them in future, and it's obviously a good way to discourage enemies from attacking your castle by stuffing it full of people; enemies target the enemy castle with the smallest garrison, and they only count numbers, so 60 recruits are less likely to be attacked than 59 hired blades.

Easily captured if you have over 8 athletics. Even 10 infantry units can't keep up with me.
