I have found a minor nuance in the amount of load time is needed just to tell the PC that we are fighting them and then going back into a load screen to go to the world map to select the battle options (attack, send troops, etc.).

Instead of this currently process, I would recommend in making the pre-battle flow more seemless. What I am thinking is that when you load into the scene that you talk with the npc that if you decide to attack that instead of loading back into the world map that a side menu slides out to let you select your options (attack, send troops, retreat, etc.). From there it prevents unnecessary load time and makes the flow of battle more seemless and immersive to a degree.

Another option would be to improve load times, though I think that would be a harder thing to work on and would be a less seamless transition.
