British tourist in Egypt painkillers trial sobs after 'mistake confession'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/12/25/british-tourist-egypt-painkillers-trial-sobs-mistake-confession/

Ms Plummer was asked: “You are accused of smuggling and possessing Tramadol to Egypt?”

She replied “yes” and the judge then instructed the session clerk to record that she “confessed”.

Excuse me, but answering "yes" can't possibly be a confession. She merely confirmed she's accused.
Are they linguistically retarded in Egypt?

The only way it can sound like one syllable is if it was pronounced like "guy" except "f" and I don't think any accent dialect does that. Even in super-non-rhotic accents there's always a hint of "r" or schwa which makes it two syllables. To suggest otherwise would mean that "your" or "you're" constitute 0 syllables in certain accents, which is ridiculous. Q.E.D.

In that case I'd say one syllable then, but I'm not a grammar surgeon, so I would recommend you seek the attention of one if your syllables continue past four

I guess you've never been to England or watched old films from ye olde England. Fire can be pronounced almost like "far" or some approximation of "fair", "fah", and "far". It's hard to describe, but it's definitely one syllable. Pretty posh sounding. Stiff upper lip and all that.

I personally say fiyer.

In some southern parts of the U.S. fire is also pronounced "far". Source: grew up in Virginia, the mountain in my backyard was caught on "far", and all anyone talked about was the "Tar far" (tire fire) burning in my backyard.
