Does this quite costly option give me a bonus when it comes to a siege?
When I get besieged I always let my men fight without me because its faster and they can beat like 3 times the enemys.
Or does it just add banners like I read in the only regarding post I could find?
I´m talking about a selfbuild castleupgrade from a village.

thanks for your interest

improvements force besieger to take time for preparing siege equipment : ladders ,towers
that means u got some more time before assult
but I found that some castles are better left unchanged if u fighting urself ,that is due specific design of some of them
But in automatic outcome delay might be useful

I'm going to have to agree, I had this one that had a little roof I could get on by the ladder they entered from. I'd just sit there and peg them with arrows at point blank the entire time. Off to the side I'd have all my infantry which they had to walk through to get to me. Oh and this walkway was completely open so I put my archers in the courtyard and they peg them too. I've wiped out armies of 1400+ in strength just with 300+. Then I upgraded it and got ****ed lol. I learned my lesson.

exactly
that's my point
1400+  wiped out nice man
bet u lvl up during  the fight

Is there any solution to this problem? Certainly don't want upgrades to weaken our castles.  I fear it could be just the crappy path finding, and there might not be much Dr. Thomas can do about it.

I don't like trying to hold the Swedish Castles, you can't attack them with arrows until they are through the main gate, across the courtyard and up the ladder. It's just an awkward design. If I knew how to make scenes I'd design some really cool stuff that would be balanced and not bugged. Also in the Swedish Castles you can't fire over the wooden wall, it looks like you can but it's blocked by the model.

Btw .
recently I came to deliver Czluchow Castle from Hungarians and I'm really impressed by its design without improvements ,just raw wooden keep.
Its simply great stronghold , easily to defend which is the sole reason of building strongholds by me
Grats to designer if I ever own this stronghold I wont change it at all

Funny, but I hate attacking Swedish castles--You cant use your superior archers to tear the men apart before you charge, because of the darn wooden wall, which for some reason archers cant shoot. If this was real life I would set fire to the darn thing, but its a game so I cant.

share the pain of it too
Once I stumbled across the option to set a fire in a near castle village while talking to the elder though
Castle was mine at that time so I didnt check the effect of it off course
Might be convenient arrangement
Anyone try it?

do u think it's worth to improve the fortifications of nikomedia castle? (next to costantinopoli)

it costs 70.000, it's all i've got and want to be sure they are well spent...

basic castle is like this:  http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/21/mb2bg.jpg/

and i see that on the reticle i could jump and fire on enemies...don't know what will happen to the structure if i upgrade

If it is all there the money you got better don't...

i think i will risk and try it, it didn't take much time to get that money, looting and with the ransoms from captured nobles. and luckily with all my factories and taxes from fief i am about even with the wages for my army.

but maybe i will wait and see how it goes defending like it is now, so i could see the difference.

good idea ... Waite

Fortification I will give your castle stone walls and the main door will be closed. In a siege the enemy will use ladders then and spawn further away from your castle. Fortification II is bugged right now, I wouldn't recommend it. I think fortification I is also a necessity for your fortified manor to reach its max. inhabitants of ~1,000 people otherwise it will only have some 700-800 inhabitants.

cool, thx. i will build the first fortification only for now (the one that costs around 65.000)

The higher level fortifications have severe pathfinding problems. The smallest one works fine.
