I'm sorry but I finally give up, what the hell are TW doing? Nothing new in 3 weeks. Whoever is managing this team needs the boot.

I see real-time two-party Co-op working really well on a much smaller map with a change in objective:

For the sake of simplicity, imagine: A square map with 4 castles in each corner that each have 2 villages and a Town in the center of the map with 3 villages.

Two players are dropped in with ownership of a castle each. They then work to take control of the map, getting better gear and troops over time. The objective of the game is to get ownership of the central town and defend it for a certain amount of time.

I believe the current Bannerlord engine/base game would already be 80% set-up to support this (After adding the co-op ability) The changes would be:
  • During battles, the world map would need to continue in real-time (Although, it could progress at half-speed during battles, for balance).
  • There would need to be a new mechanic that allows NPCs/Players to join a battle that is already underway.
  • There would need to be an in-battle warning system to alert players of other NPCs/Players that are near or about to enter battles in order to allow for a retreat command. (There could be a 30 second wait before a new party actually joins the battle as a reinforcement)
  • NPC mobs like looters would still roam the land but players could be given the option to use their kingdom's wealth to hire bandits to disrupt enemy trade/villages OR hire man-hunters/ noble lords to protect their own villages/trade routes
  • This might potentially lead to three-way in game battles (Player vs Player vs Looters, for example) - Or you could handle it in the same way as Bannerlord/M&B currently does and only allow joining on one side
  • Many of the dialogue scenes etc. would likely have to be removed or re-worked to allow them to be done 'on the go'

Obviously this is a diversion from the original Mount and Blade concept, but it uses a huge majority of the base game and would be incredibly fun, in my opinion. On a small map the game would likely last one to two hours (Depending on what level the players start at). And the concept could slowly be expanded upon over time with bigger maps and the ability to pause/start/save a campaign. To the point where it may even work well in the fully Bannerlord map, eventually.

If the ability to turn-on/mod Co-op is ever added then I genuinely see this idea, or something similar, becoming a core Bannerlord experience, eventually. It would play out like a sort of 'real time, skill based board-game'...
Nice idea but wildly ambitious. They dont strike me as that.

Just connect second player to that battle as regular soldier. It is coop.
And you really want to play with your friend who does llike everything and you just watch until a battle starts so you can have like 3-5min of fun until you wait again for whatever time?

Doesn´t sound like a lot of fun for me. It´s a waste of ressources, they can think about stuff like this when the game is finished.

Just think about how much time you spend doing whatever compared to the battles you fight. Also the battles in Bannerlord are over fast compared to Warband.

Not only fast but also repetative as hell. AI doesn't know any tactic other than send cavalry ahead (to be shot dead by arrows), then mindlessly rush by infantry, leaving arrows behind (for my cavalry). Or they can choose a cover spot (ALWAYS THE SAME!) and stand there, but if place your arrows to shower them, they'll rush again and die.

Yeah, sorry no. That just on it's face seems inaccurate. Perhaps you should conduct a poll?
There was another thread that did this. I was surprised to find out that actually the 'opposite' is true (about 50% or more disagree with that statement it seemed, there was like 600 votes or something - the game is not good at launch or afterwards, and the content + updates have been disappoiting)

Would you mind sharing that thread as i can't find it anywhere.
And from what i see, i am more than happy to be proven wrong, is unsatisfied with the Game. And a lot of numbers back that up, steamcharts, forum threads, friendlist etc. almost everyone i know dropped the game and is pretty unsatisfied with TW in general.
Can't blame them, its been 1 1/2 month since the last patch, god knows when the next one comes and what comes with it. Seeing what a buggy game it is after almost a decade of development makes me question the rewriting of the code will do good for the game. I expect it be even more horrible than before to be real.
What could be fixed in ~2 months what couldn't be done in roughly 8 years?
Everything points towards my guess that TW is completely stressed out with Bannerlord, but can't back out anymore. And they couldn't do so beforehand, Bannerlord is the only project they have been working on. And that for such a long time, cancelling it would most likely end in them going bankrupt. So they went for EA, hoping that should help. But yea...
I am aware of the fact that my thougts are incredible pessimistic and i seriously hope i am wrong with it cause i really love the Mount and Blade franchise since the very beginning but rose-colored glasses off. This game is a ****show. Almost nothing is in the game, and whats in doesn't work properly at all or the stuff that works, is so god damn flat and boring and burns you out quicker than any real life job could ever do.
The patches they brought out broke more stuff than it fixed. Meanwhile mods in the first week made the perks functional. I can not understand why and how that can be, that the very own developers of the game have a harder time fixing something that someone who isn't involved at all can do that stuff after just a few days, on his own.
Functions of the game shown to us YEARS ago aren't in the game.
Their way of communicating.
Things like that make me loose faith in TW.

I couldn't agree with you more. No matter what the fanbois or TW defense team tries to come here and say. This whole EA has been a disaster and Bannerlord a massive disappointment

Oh god this thread is so annoying and pointless, just a bunch of entitled dudes whining to each other, I would just straight close them and close any post of this kind

Sorry buddy, I think you misinterpreted my post (I dont htink I phrased it correctly).

2/3 of BL players AGREE the devs more or less are **** and didnt deliver, and they are not happy (the consensus is NOT that those diehards of the forum are through and through 'the playerbase opinion'

PS: I am of the opinon that I am totally disappointed, the game sux, the devs suck. everything sux + doesnt deserve the $70 price point (that I paid, and I have seen 40% off within 3 months of release, I think its disgusting. I really really ****ing hate them)

Jesus Christ, you people need to chill out. TW has already been fully transparent that the EA version is not going to be as in-depth as Warband was, for the exact reason people are *****ing about.

They have been perfectly transparent on what is going on, their last dev blog told us all we needed to know about what the delay is likely caused by. Code Refactoring. Not to mention they have a pandemic to worry about, and aren't working together in a studio.

People also like to point out how this should not be the state of the game after 8 years of development. They fail to take into account that 2 of those years were scrapped so they could rebuild the engine from the ground up, which took a year or two in itself to complete. So really, the development time of the actual game was somewhere between 2-4 years before EA release. There are going to be bugs, TW has already shown that they are not the most efficient nor fastest studio, but they are still ethical and passionate about the game. Have a little faith and stop whining because the development isn't quickening to the paste you'd like.

You sound like a child. "I'm a project manager, I'm sure I could have done better!" Get your head out of your ass and be an adult.

Dude, these people are insatiable. If they don't have it their way, they're going to complain about it, even knowing full well that TW was entirely transparent of the state that Bannerlord was going to be in during EA. They act as though TW held a gun to their head and made them buy their game.

Where does this information come from? I keep seeing variations on this statement popping up with no evidence.

From what we've seen in blogs, the engine they're currently using has been gradually updated from whatever they were using back when the first screenshots came out. There has been one guy working solely on updating the engine, with some technical artists experimenting with optimisation. Nowhere have I seen anything saying that the engine was completely rebuilt or that it then took the entire team 2 years to do.

This video is from 2014, and is a WIP version of the new engine they built. Mostly showcasing what the game could look like with the engine they made.

Nothing in this video says that they rebuilt it from scratch between 2013 and 2014.

Also this is absolutely not a WIP of a graphical engine. The fact that it runs well and you can even see things means that it's basically complete. A WIP of an engine might look something like this:
