I'm done: Episode II

What has changed for him? Probably the fact that tons of users he enjoyed and still enjoys to interact with have left the place? Vibe is on thing, but if you end up not liking the new users around, then why stay?
You could argue that an admin should be above that, but really, in the end even Lamb is only human.

Also no, the forum has changed. The tone, the people, a lot of the policies.
Even someone like me who only joined in 2009 can notice it.

For the record, potential angry reply typer, please note that I carefully left out any "judgement" of said changes. :iamamoron:

At least I am not literally killing people with my harassment, my dearest throat-sick Swedish meatball gobbler <3
I only harass them with my car at various Belgian red lights.

I actually agree with everything you said, except perhaps about tone. And yet I do not think the changes are all that tremendous. Some of the old-timers are still around, and even the ones who are not, I see the same characters in new-comers, too. People adapt to each other. My point is, really, that I don't see the point with all the drama simply for a goodbye. Didn't then, don't now. Just slip away quietly, and you can quietly slip back in if you feel like it in the future.

See? This is exactly what I'm talking about. This sort of male-bonding, no homo (unless it's homo) insulting toxic caress that has been part of this community for as long as I can remember. <3 (no homo)

Joined just a couple months after you, concurring.

Maybe in that regards it helps to be away from the place for an extended period, to get a fresh start so to speak. But I find myself expecting certain users to reply to certain things in a certain manner only to then realise with this weirdly ridiculous sense of sadness that they are no longer around. It's genuinely shaping the way I enjoy the forum, or rather no longer enjoy the forum.
In fact the only reason why I do bother to actually reply right now is that I'm bored out of my mind at work.
And this has been my longest post in months.

I should probably also note that I haven't left off-topic since 2010 or early '11 or so. So none of the above is in any way meant to reflect on on-topic, where I suspect the change is even more drastic though.

I joined in 2012, and I notice it. Perhaps not to the extent that folks who've been here longer do, but still.

Mind you, I've been away for the last two years. But maybe I just don't care enough about you guys to notice.

I can't remember the last time I saw Lamb in leopard-print. We should show that to the new members in AG, to set proper expectations for their time there.
Good point.

Ingolifs: Come back, you.

Same goes for Kissaki.

Goddammit, all these old people...

That's funny... I remember him as "Lost Lamb", it says now he's "Reverend R. Lamb", but when I clicked "quote" to his post before it sayd "Reverend F. Sheep". I didn't write that in myself, and it wasn't edited afterwards - I thought it odd when I was writing that first post.

And you know who I wish would come back? Ancientwanker. Wish he'd come back and continue working on TLD mod.

I thought that falling off a cliff was the traditional mode of departure?

Yes, yes... very odd indeed.

Bloody hell, I now realized I wasn' quoting him, was I? I was quoting you.

I joined in 2011 and the place is drastically different in such a way that I'm better for having been here back then. To be perfectly frank, anyone who joined after 10:44:34 PM February 02, 2011 is just a bottom-feeding cretin who'll never reach my rank of coolness. I'll certainly make sure every single new poster knows this.

Go back to bed, Arv, it's Adult Swim.

but, no, really I've perceived some changes

Kissaki 说:
But what are these huge changes everyone keeps talking about :?:
Off-topic (a looong time ago) was just a place where mostly M&B players talked about things other than M&B. Usually it was other games, historical stuff, each other, but nothing really weighty. Then as the community grew and more people came in, more discussions naturally popped up, things like religion and politics. Once you start talking about those, crazies come out of the woodwork, and we had a few resident conspiracy theorists like Ancalimon and godfrey. No big deal, they came and went, and nobody has really risen to such prominence in that capacity since. However, now it seems like many people use those topics as a sounding board (or an echo chamber), really putting their views out there, and it's polarized and/or sensitized some individuals. In the first few years you could say something like Wellen/Leifr did just a few posts back anywhere on the forum and nobody would think twice about it. Depending on where you said it now, it could be the same, or someone could call them out for some nonsense political correctness garbage just 'cause MUH SENSIBILITIES. In some threads, it feels like what you say will be ignored or heavily scrutinized by people with a point to prove. The easygoing feeling from way back is gone in off-topic.

On-topic, though, is where the change is really apparent. While it's nominally for talking about M&B/Warband, it's more of a circlejerk now than off-topic was ever criticized of being. It was a busy little place brimming with suggestions and speculation about the original M&B, swelling up and then settling back down over the years until the Warband beta started. There was a huge surge with the beta and subsequent release of Warband, with unprecedented enthusiasm, but that has entirely died and only those with nothing better to do still bother with the forum. Even the dedicated players have mostly quit this place for the time being. There is now next to nothing productive being done for existing or future M&B games in on-topic. It would be ignorant to assume it will stay that way, though, as it's clearly cyclic. Bannerlord will see another rise in that section and it will probably be the biggest yet. The problem with on-topic as it stands is that after rising to its highest after Warband's release, it has sunk to its absolute lowest and is fermenting while we wait for Bannerlord.

To be honest, I'd prefer if on-topic just died off at this point. It will come back with the next game, but right now it's just getting people banned for the dumbest reasons.
