I'll do myself a favor and shelve the game until it goes out of EA

I only played another unfinished game before this one. I used to be a beta tester for Mechwarrior Online. I was excited to be a beta tester for Mechwarrior, as I used to be a Battletech fan. The fact that it was broken (because -duh- it was in beta) frustrated me so much that i didnt want to hear about it for 5 years, long after it was released. Now i am happy to have bought the game, happy to have tried it, but I feel like if i keep on playing with patches that change the game day after day, and stuff that keep on breaking (which is absolutely normal) is going to pile on my enjoyment of the game.

Maybe someone else in here should do it too. I can read some frustrated threads as if the game was golden. It is not. It's incomplete. It is in early access. It's playable but it's not granted its going to be enjoyable for months and months to come. I know i cant test, because testing drains the enjoyment out of my pores and makes me angry. I know myself and i can already see myself entrapped in some embroiled in some 30+ page thread on some ABSOLUTELY GAMEBREAKING FEATURE THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED YESTERDAY which I will name as the culprit of my unsatisfaction. I am sure that there's plenty of people that are better at this and wish them happy bug hunting.

So see you in 6 months and let's hope we will be playing a much stable, balanced, enjoyable game. ✌

You are definitely doing yourself a favor and I agree it seems more people should do this. Meanwhile some people are actively testing out the game with long playthroughs.

I want to play it so bad, but I’m in the same boat as you. The thing is, since many years i played quite a few games with a lot of potential, but it always stays like that, lot of potential. Sometimes mods can make it great, but more often than not it won’t.

Let’s sacrifice a goat and chant ‘butterlord’ every night when we go to bed, maybe this game will live up to it’s potential. If it lives up to 50% of it’s potential it will be really really good. Than mods come

Yea. There is no reson to be an unpaid betatester. Hope, this game will be better after 1/2 year, to.

That's exacly how I felt with Warband. So much potential, but aakind of blank sheet in the end.

I'm very worried because looking at early game, Bannerlord has the very same shortcomings of Warband's. Bandit mechanics is a totally pointless grind and becomes a chore, uninspired silly quests and so on. Mid to late game may be different though, but I'm not there yet.

As for the OP, it's a very mature decision to take!

Which broken feature would you say irked you the most over the time you played?

Uhm, the forest bandits I'd say... then the XP, the unclear allotment of fiefs, uh and the companion disappearing on Ain Batr or whatsitsname, that drew me insane. The repetitiveness of missions in villages, a bug that broke my last save which stuck me in siege mode without me being able to move while a 0 garrison city pelted me via ghost manned siege machines... well there are a few.
The fact that now there's a beta version will only complicate things further, so i guess this is a good moment to leave. i still have a good feeling and a bit of appetite left for the game.

Absolut legit kind of handling an ea title.

Chances are low that it backfires here.
I once did that years ago with Empyrion Online, was a bunch of fun for over 50 hours, but then i thought i come back when its more finished.
Now it is technical so complicated to build things and ships there that i am too dumb to play it anymore

Yeah I think I'm going to do the same, as even the things that were obvious features in warband isn't implemented. Had fun with what we got, and I think the community for this game is too big, for me to actually have my inputs heard and responded like in other games I EA'ed.
Well, they are working at a blistering speed, even if we didn't take the COVID situation into account. So maybe I could be coming back to it in a month or two.

im enjoying it more than warband for the core of the game being battles that feel better than warbands but i do agree its very bare bones and in the mid to late game it is an absolute chore the new mechanics that are in the game are really unfinished or outright broken(not surprising its EA) but some of the stuff that could have easily been implemented that was in warband isnt in the game such as feasts and diplomacy which in my opinion is better in warband than it is here as you are not able to persuade your king to make peace and so on but obviously they are fixing the current content rather than adding more potentially broken stuff which imo is a decent way of doing it

Agreed. I've played for 80 hours and hit a point where I feel emotional closure at the idea of letting the game rest for a few weeks or months. I've done what I can, the features I want the most are still ahead, I'll be happy to return to the game once some of my favourite aspects (diplomacy, dynasties and city management) have been implemented and refined. There's no shame in coming back later.

Actually every games have their sweet spot in experiences' time, just like every other things in life. Even the profession you'd been very satisfy, the musics you like the most and many other things.

So it's only logical that you put down something you like in some points and revisit it later. It's called life's wisdom, something about resting is for the longer trips.

Also knows that to develop a 100 hours game usually take much much longer than the end user received, it happen to all games not just Bannerlord. So you should knew it's inevitable once you played games for more than one or two decades, and that's why we should support ( by buying the genuine copy ) those studios still dedicating their efforts to this arts.

Well, welcome to the life of gamers.

I'm actually having a good time so far, but I can see your point, and I have a ton of respect for your fair and level-headed approach. Peace out, and see you in the future.

I agree Deer, and though I am going to continue playing for the foreseeable future, I worry that I am not doing myself a favour!

CU.

Dunno what people complain about. This is 100x better than Warband native. And most mods were incomplete/buggy as well.

Nothing wrong with playing it for a bit then putting it down for a few months / year again. I did that a bunch in Warband to let the core game get fresh again before trying another mod.

This is exactly how I feel. Unfortunately I did go on this forum and whine like a kid, after trying the game out after release.
It kinda just prove how many are passionate about this game, especially when you already see some people modding almost every aspect of the game without modding tools.

I think we should keep respecting talesworld. One can not agree on their methods, but it seems like a team who is trying and they aren’t only here for the cash grab.

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but these are not normal circumstances. After a few weeks of lockdown I was very happy to see Bannerlord released, even if it is early access and full of bugs. There's only a limited number of TV series worth watching. Perfect timing for an early access release.
