I got bored with the command type character never killing anything so I picked up a crossbow and decided to sit between my archer/infantry line and take pot shots at enemy cav.

For some reason I am very lucky on headshotting cav (either the horse or the rider) so figured at least this way I would be useful..

Standing behind a huscarl and I see a Swadian Knight bearing down on us.. I take a shot and miss just to the left of his head, the huscarl infront of me pulls out a axe and plants it squarely in the guys head...

I see another Knight incoming and loaded up my crossbow and took another shot this time hitting hte horse in the head... only 38 damage so it is still charging... Perhaps I am just tired but I swear the huscarl looked back at me, pulled out another axe, and took down the horse (then ran up and smacked the knight upside the head).


I have never in my life been so tempted to shoot one of my own men...

Ever though about taking axewield-lessons from your huscarl? He may appreciate that his boss is at least willing to learn after he has failed so hard!

A truly loyal huscarl would have picked up a crossbow (or killed one of the crossbowmen in the ranks and stole theirs), shot the rider in the face with it and told me I made a good shot pretending he never did it

If any of my soldiers did that to me then I would shoot them in the feet as a reprimand. Fortunately I spend my time showing up my troops (Rhodok crossbowmen the lot of 'em) by getting headshot after headshot with my crossbow whilst they pepper feet & torso's.

I think thats the one thing I forgot to mention with doing a commander build in your thread, and that is to dive in to combat if you feel like it. My battles are currently 50/50 - spend half the time directing my soldiers and the rest of the time hammering stuff in melee or shooting 'em down. However without any cavalry in my Company at the moment, I often wait until the enemy starts to run away then chase 'em down on my super-fast Diplomacy mod courser (55 speed! With 5 riding skill...it's like I've been given the Bugatti Veyron of Calradia - saving up for the Spirited version currently).

Not much really... I just pop out from behind my infantry lines and stab a guy or two then retreat behind my huscarls for safety... that dang noble robe doesn't offer a whole heck of a lot of protection... get hit in melee for 20-30 from tier 2 troops...

Yes that is a problem. I'm aiming for getting some decent armour soon but been too busy spending money on troops or kitting out my 'Personal Guard' (Matheld, Lezalit, Artimenner - they all seem happy together) - my tabard is looking a little ragged by now with how much patching up it's needed! My bascinet helm is awesome though.

He would have taken the crossbow, beaten the knight with it and handed it back to you with a comment about the proper use of a crossbow.

OT: That actually happens to me all the time, especially if I'm playing a commander (hence low power-strike) character. A bit annoying, but I suppose it's bound to happen a lot with high-tier troops.
