This question has been floating around various sites, so I'd thought I'd see what the M&Bers have to answer for this! It always brings up interesting discussions about games and people's reasons to why they answered that way.
If you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life, which 5 games would you bring and why?

There will always be naysayers trying to derail the question with situations, so here's a disclaimer: The games run on solar powered tamper proof consoles/PCs. Internet connection is allowed, but any attempt at signalling the outside world will result in the game shutdown for a week.. so yeah basically you can't be rescued with the aid of the computers... no matter how logical your point may be

My list:
1 Sims 2 (+ expansions) : Living stranded on an island, it's just the quintessential game to bring with you. You can't live like you did at home, so why not simulate your life! Sims 2 is such a perfect game when you have all the time in the world. If I was alone, this game would keep me from snapping and talking to a volleyball. With the virtual human interaction and with such an open ended range of possibilities, this would probably stop me from going over the edge.
2 GTA San Andreas : Once again, it has the same "Virtual life" appeal as Sims 2 has, except you are the one character, and you have 3 cities to do what you want. This is another game which is very hard to get bored of.

3 .... I'd need to bring an MMORPG, and if mount&blade was a full version and had online abilities, I'd bring it. Otherwise something like Oblivion or WoW. Even though I haven't played either, some people seem to spend 70% of their day playing these games.

4 Black and White : Such a fun game, very empowering. It would last me quite a long time before I'd grow bored.

5 Half Life 2 (+ garrys mod) : My favorite FPS, even though it's a linear story arc, the game play is excellent, the multiplayer would last me forever, and Garry's Mod would never tire me out.

I WOULD BRING:

MAx Payne 1
Max Payne 2
Halo 2
Mount & Blade
GTA San Andreas

The Punisher : Because I never get tired of shoving a grenade down someones throat and throwing them off a rooftop.
Mount&Blade : So my bloodthirst is mildly satisfied.
Battlefield 2 : So I have the enjoyment of crushing enemys by rolling over them with tanks.
Age of Empires 2 : To keep my mind thinking.
Halo : Because the Covenant need to die.

very right about sim2, good choice if you are trying not to go mad. if you had all the time in the world it would be much fun, you could have entire neighbourhoods and generations and generations of sims going, haha.

same with san andreas, very good second life, you dont have to go around wildly killing cops, you can be fairly peaceful .

max payne and all these shooters, though? those games get so boring so quick once you've finished them once or twice. not much replayability. even with mods.

i think a long rpg like oblivion is a must, especially if you have the construction set, once you get bored, you could learn to mod and make whatever you wish.

i think once a game like spore comes out, that would be another. maybe a civlization game.

couple that with a nice hut and computer, and a nice crop of good food and mary jane out the back, why WOULDN't i want to be stuck on an island?

Civ 4 (+ expansions) - endless replayability
Galciv 2 (+expansions) - the same
Operation Flashpoint (+expansions) - does it need any justification?
Dawn of War (+expansions) - I'll miss Warhammer....
Morrowind - Would have said Oblivion, but Morrowind has far more mods, and hence a longer lifespan.

Neverwinter Nights (2, once it comes out): I'm falling back in love with Dungeons and Dragons, and there tend to be fewer assholes on certain Roleplaying servers than in MMORPGs.

Civilization 4: For the reason Archonsod stated.

Dom II: So I could play with meh posse on the mount&blade IRC.

Mount&Blade: We all know the reason.

Red Orchestra: To satisfy my FPS lust.

1: Mount & Blade "duh"
2: Rome total realism, its fun as hell playing online.
3: Civ 4
4: Battlefield 2 only if i can use teamspeak to chat with my m8s in the clan. otherwise Max Payne 2.
5: SpaceRanger 2

1) an Automatically updateing copy of M&B and all it's mods, plus mod makeing tools (also, somehow, auto updateing )
2) Jagged alliance 2 (since it's the game i've spent the most hours of my life on), but JA3 when it comes out
3) possibly x-3, since it's fun to trade stuff, and it blow's hours
4)well, that's it, since all other games i play are Multiplayer.

Errrmmmm, blah...I'd definately have to go with anything that has some good freeform, sandboxy kind of gameplay I guess.

Lessee...

M:TW
R:TW
StarTopia
Alpha Centauri
Maybe NWN if there's an innernet connection

Hmmm some tycoon games would really be nice too, but wouldn't know which ones to choose.

M&B -with it's mods, of course.
Oblivion -that is, when it's expansions have come out and there's enough mods to go around
Dawn of War (FOR THE EMPEROR!)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Either Rome: Total War, or the new redone Medieval: Total War, when it comes out.

Alot of the same games are being chosen here.
I'd pick

1)M&B with mods, and all modding tools = endless playa/moddability
2)Saints Row (seems like a good GTA replacement)
3)Conan age of Hyborian (seems to be pretty good aswell, and has an MMORPG option)
4)Battlefield 2
5)Medieval2: Total War

edit: Now Oblivion has multiplayer ability too, maybe I'll pick that instead of Saints Row or Conan age of Hyborian. Mass Effect looks like it's an in-depth RPG too. Decisions decisions...

Civilization IV
Oblivion
Morrowind
Perfect Dark (N64)
Mount&Blade and Mods / Star Wars Galaxies with unlimited character creation space

Ghost Recon, Mount and Blade, Call of Duty + UO Expansion, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Age of Empires 3.

If i had good internet there then

NWN (i would be on there for hours)
M&B (fun fun fun ^_^)
dawn of war (gonna kill us sum hummies)
Prince of Persia series (yay!)
Gothic series (Would've said Oblivion but Gothic always manages to satisfy and there will always be a time when you think "i'm going to complete Gothic..again!"

Mount&Blade, Oblivion, Civilization 2, Stronghold 1,

And if Crysis will have good multiplayer if not then Call of Duty 2.

Also wouldn't mind all the tycoon games if they put them out in a boxset...

Also I would like all of the mods that I would like for these games.

A game that has a full galaxy with individual planets, etc, basicaly a giant of a monstrosity of a game that would be so huge it probably won't get made. Ya know, a super game. I'd trade Oblivion for that.

A simple question.... If you were stranded on a island, how would you get internet? And, I dont really think you would have much time to game if you dont have any electricity.

My games:

Swimming
Hunting
Fishing
Running around
climbing up trees and jumping into the water

My first post covers that, no need to derail the thread here.
