If real life was like that I would claw my own eyes out because it would suck so much. At least now the way it looks is tolerable. Nothing to be excited about... but tolerable.

I know someone who constantly comments on how the nature in games looks better than real life. I am so struck by the stupidity of those statements that I can't even utter a response, I just shake my head.

Would it have always been that way?  Or would it have been changed to that in our lifetime?

If the former is true, then I don't think I'd really care...I'd probably be amazed at the video games ability to emulate real life.

If the latter is true, it'd probably be kind of wacky and fun...like some sort of hallucinogen...then we'd get used to it.

You can't believe how much I shook my head when my brother said that Unreal was as realistic looking as games could ever be.

Games may not be as realistic, but they certainly are more idealistic.

I still remember Barbarian II on the Amstrad CPC464. I remember thinking nothing would ever beat those graphics.

How wrong I was.

(In my defence it was the first time I'd seen a game use more than 4 colours, and the first time I seen a game on an actual monitor rather than a TV)

It's interested how people always seem to believe graphics have gotten as good as they can get, just like how in various stages of history some people believed technology and general human advancement had reached it's peak. I wonder why we do that...

Well... obviously, 98% of humans (Including myself.) are stupid, I'm just wondering why we choose to say: "NOTHING MORE CAN BE DONE, WE'VE REACHED THE END." When we clearly haven't.

Because progress scares us.

About why people think the nature looks better, it's because of the bloom shaders etc make it all vibrant. I'd rather they put more effort into making dreary england-style weather, though.
