I bet on my head if M&B went online - built in a world not seperated. It would be most played game.
what do you think?

I like this idea but I'd much more enjoy it on private servers where the host could control house rules (and maybe script events). That way troublemakers would be easy to evict. On an MMO things get ugly fast when PvP is a big part of things. Private servers tend to attract a more mature crowd.

One model for persistant universe servers I always liked was a fairly obscure space sim called Terminus. One group called TerminusPoint was running an ongoing campaign on a server with changing events and situations scripted into the persistant universe over time. In many ways this kind of model is already similiar, with its economy, wars and missions, to what we see in M&B. Albeit Terminus was a bit more dynamic - generating missions as a response to events in game and prices adjusted for resources and trade goods based on what trade and manufacturing was actually going on at spacestations (essentially the "cities" of Terminus).

But who knows what M&B II will bring?

if WOW had this type combat mode ... jesus it were best game ...

Doubt I'd like this as a MMORPG....maybe an up to 32 player LAN - TCP/IP multiplayer option would be neat tho...but not MMORPG...

I think too many people have sold their souls to WoW and DaoC to recognise how cool this game would be in MP.

I resent that. I've sold both my soul and my granparents to WoW, but I'd trade it in a moment for an online mode for M&B. However, I'd rather see the option for having multiple fan-run persistent servers than one big thing run centrally.

It would be good but armagen has already said it won't be implimented in this release.

Here's to hoping for a M&B II

Sorry for the double post. Just to note the above is Otto (forgot to sign in  and it dosen't let you edit guest posts  ).

A MMORPG version of this game would be awesome. But that would:
1) force monthly pay
2) force armagen to get more employees (does he want this?)

So a server that can be hosted by a player would work out better, just as with counterstrike and such online games. The no-monthly-pay would also attract more people.

Also, hackers/cheaters on player-hosted-servers would be better controlable then on a mmorpg server. It's terrible if a mmorpg server has hackers/cheaters running loose. It would damage the reputation of the game a lot.

So I would gladly see a multiplayer version of this game, but don't expect it to ever become mmorpg unless it's going to be a whole new project with more employees perhaps. Or perhaps a whole other game developer "stealing" the concept of the game.

The singleplayer version of this game isn't finished yet, so let armagen first concentrate on that. If all seems finished he might still make "Mount&Blade Online" as his next project

you didn't log in the second time either  And how is the forum going to know that you were the guest? Anyone could have posted that message, so that's why you can't edit it.

Wooooahhhh, now wait a minute. Counterstrike is the number one hacked game of all time...so i don't think having people host thier own servers would reduce the risk of hackers one bit. At least with a master server, if someone is banned for hacking, they are banned from the game entirely. And i doubt you'd be getting very many hackers if you had to pay $5 a month or something to play...very few people are willing to risk getting banned when a little rl money is on the line.

Good private servers usually have admins paying alot more attention to what's going on (if they aren't, find yourself another server). There's also alot less drama when dealing with folks abusing the game. Just boot and block them. On a MMO you often get all kinds of whining, complaining, petitioning, trash talking when an abuser gets removed. On a private server folks just breath a sigh of relief and get on with their lives. Also only issuing passwords to people you want playing tends to limit the potential for trouble to even happen in the first place.

The best part, though, is that private servers can be set up to use house rules and modded packages. This way everyone running a server can tweak a game to suit their tastes and the tastes of their players.

Not necessarily. Take a look at www.atitd.com an MMOG which has only two developers.

Edit: Removed an errant comma

Yeah, i played atitd a few months ago. Unfortunatly the game lacks purpose and therefore, a reason to play IMO, but a unique idea behind it nonetheless. But once again, i must disagree about private servers. Admins on private servers are usually immature kids who take the game too seriously and have their own server so they can be in charge. It has been my experience with other games that 90% of all admins on private servers are abusive and actually ruin the game more so than hackers/ lamers. The admins tend to run the game exactly how they see fit, the community be damned. I have VERY frequently seen votes taken in servers, and the admin actually go against a nearly unanimous vote cast by 20+ players simply because it's his server.

This game would be easily better than any MMO ive played, *IF*, it had some kind of a multiplayer option.

this person has the right idea

See that's the beauty of private servers. Don't like how one guy's doing it go somewhere else or start your own. With an MMO you don't exactly have that option. Instead it's day in, day out, complaining and since the admins are dependant on subscription fees folk get away with all kinds of stuff.

In my experience private servers for games like Battlefield or any teambased shooter seem to work out pretty good because they're private clubhouses for folks who already know each other. The idea isn't that there's one guy who's lording it all over everyone else. More like that you can keep everyone out who'd mess it up for this group of friends.

I can see that, the site isnt even working

I know another MMORPG developed by two people myself www.worldofpirates.com but it's considered abandonware by many of it's players and almost no patches. They have a fulltime job next to developing the game, so they just don't have enough time with only two people.

Hmm, they had a problem with their registrar not too long ago, and it looks like things have been set up incorrectly now. http://atitd.com still works, but www does not.

Cancel that, there is a typo in that link, I managed to include a comma somehow

IF multiplayer was added, i'd like to see a co-op where there's the main character, and the other players are your lieutenants, like Marnid and Borcha. Their skills would add to yours, and they'd assist you in battle.
