I have a suggestion, it might be more of a mod thing, but I think it's a good idea. How about making a total conversion into the Wild West? Hear me out, I don't think it would be that hard. Replace all the weapons with pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Replace the green land with desert. Replace the soldiers with gunmen. Turn the towns into more 1970's western movie look. Change the NPC's to be posse's and Indians (keep the bows for them).

You have the horse riding down, you should expand with it. Think of it, a free roaming western. It would be almost identical to what you have already made, only with guns.

I like the medieval game as it is, I really do (well, it does need polish but you know that) but I think some sort of mod or option for a western game would kick a**. Anyone else agree?

I realise that a wild west mod is miles away from where m&b is now, but I would definately play such a mod.

Play as indian, sherrif, man with no name, or bandit. Through in the magnificent seven, gun runners, ranchers, tribal conflict etc. Would be really cool.

Would love to play a game like that.

Exactly. There's a lot of content out there you could tap into, could be a really long and excellent game. But just as you said, it is a long way off. I understand that too.

Yeah, I made this suggestion in the Mod Discussion forum a while back, and I really like the idea. But, I just read recently that Neversoft (developers of the Tony Hawk games), is making a wild west game with what looks similar to what I would imagine a mod for M&B would be like, for the Xbox 360 and probably the PC: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/gun/news_6125720.html

Yeah I read about that in Game Informer Magazine. It sounds cool but doesn't mean this shouldn't be done.

While i would love to see such mods, i'm not really sure if the M&B engine is up for the challenge. I mean, the 2 best things about this game are melee combat, and horses finally done right. So while a...samurai mod, or a Rome era mod might be cool and work, i'm not so sure about more modern day settings (i.e., with guns). Largely because then it'd be more like just a standard fps, and while M&B may be great, i don't think the engine can stand up to those programmed specifically for that type of gameplay. Furthermore, fps are...just what the name suggests, meant to be played in first person. And first person in M&B feels kind of tacked on at the last minute and needs alot of work (i play many shooters, but M&B in first person just makes me dizzy and feel sick...literally). So in short, i think that M&B mods would be best if kept in pre-firearm era's. I hope i'm incorrect about the capabilities of the engine, and look forward to be proven wrong actually. It just seems like the Source engine would be best for some of those more modern day ideas, anyone else share my opinion?

I would agree with you if bows and crossbows weren't done so well. Obviously they can do projectiles no problem. That's all a gun would be, a faster projectile with bullets rather than arrows flying through the air.

i think the engine can simulate guns with some tweaks, but it can't now. i tested it once with a modded crossbow. even at the hard limit for weapon speed and rediculous weapon skills you take nearly 3/4 seconds just to get the thing to a decent aim. the actual firing is very fast, but the bolts will go somewhere within a 60 degree arc. a good shooter can get a better aim than that by just pulling up their arm and shooting in the general direction of the target. if the engine is tweaked to allow much higher weapon speeds, maybe guns could be put in. and there's no point testing a bow, because guns don't behave the same way trying to aim. why would your chance of missing increase as you perfected your aim? only crossbows could do this.

I think its more of a matter than just simply tweaking code to make guns "work". There's alot of fps aspects that this game just lacks. Recoil alone would be a pain in the butt to do properly. I don't think its impossible, but it certainly would be VERY difficult to make a quality fps with this engine. I'd just hate to see modding efforts wasted on a fps that is semi-fun for maybe 10 minutes. Now something based more around revolutionary war times would might work ok, single shot muskets and all. You could probably do that right now with great ease, replace crossbow with musket model, quarter the reload speed of the crossbow, have it negate all armor, and bam! Anyways, i know nothing of programming, so my statement kind of loses most of its value right there  Go forth and create great mods, i commandeth thee!

Who says it has to be an FPS? I don't want it to be an FPS myself. Most of my favorite shooters are third person.
