Beside AD 1257, I’m playing Civilization V at the moment. Its overworld map has great landscapes, because there are forest, nice modeled cities and one thing, which is missed in grey-blurry overworld map in Warband:  textured farmlands, with crops, colorful grain etc.

Just look at that view in Civ 5:

Or in Age of Empires 3:
farmwt.jpg

This is texture, which can be used:

And the view in perspective look, as it would look on the map:

Doesn’t this look better then normal view? Wouldn’t this look nice?
But biggest question is: doesn’t this affect speed of map?
What do you think?

It's a great idea, and I wouldn't mind if the world map was a bit more realistic like that. But you have to remember that in the 13th century, farming was still limited to how many men and women were available to plough, sow and harvest within a given community. Most of the world was still covered by forests, and fields like those in your picture would make up a very tiny percentage of the total map. But around all major and minor cities it would be a nice addition to the mod.

Indeed, I also really like the suggestion and have always thought how bleak the M&B campaign map seemed compared to CIV and Total War games but as Waffenbaum points out an upgrade should ideally include a good deal of forest textures.

And as long as it's only a texture I don't see how it would affect the map speed much, if at all.

Well I love the idea, it's connected with the map icons.  A village icon could include fields and buildings, maybe some cows etc, it has to be a part of the icon, I hope someone with the right skills could make them.  I'd rather not see ploughed fields everywhere like in the picture you linked.  But the area around the village could indeed include that.

What they said  really great idea.

But I think Its Going To Make The Map More Laggy For Others With Old/low-end computers.
To Othr: or who ever is doing the editing of the mod(idk really)Try Adding it as Addon? for Any one who want to download it
Can i Suggest making a new sticky note for the Forms Thats Called "Addons" Files That You Can Add If You Want But Not Recommended? And Make It Locked For Only You Or Who ever thats Editing The Mod(again idk who)
Sooo yeah Othr What Do You Think?

No it wouldn't make a difference provided the models for these villages don't have a high vertex count.  They're static, they're not animated so it wouldn't cause any problems.

oh i see alright ty

Od course, I know these pictures present rather modern look of fields, i didn;t find any medieval at the moment, ... and i agree, it should cover only villages or maybe a cities... The landscape would improve much after that!

Perhaps make the development and size of farmland around a town/city proportional o the wealth of the town? Give a visual representation of how wealthy the area is based on how many fields there are around it, etc.

The original idea is great and I second othr's and kackaj's posts. I remember that my first post in this forum contained the very same idea among others.

And now that the map is up as a topic. There are rivers lacking in eastern Europe like the Dnjestr, Dnjepr and Pripjet, Moskwa and Oka, Memel and Dünja. Not all of these rivers should be added, but without them the landscape looks more barren and empty than it shoud. Well, the same goes for Asia minor, the near East, Egypt and north Africa.

Could you also mark the map boundaries with the following text:
"Here be Dragons!"

As much as I love pretty maps, keep in mind that for the time mapping was more a matter of art than of science for most of the involved factions.  It would be a long time before holding a compass, theodolite, and scribe became the international sign for "come shoot me!"  (In Vietnam surveyors had a higher casualty rate than special operators and helicopter pilots!)  The comforting part will be that when the map is in error, we can just blame the fault on overly artistic scribes. (See above re:"come shoot me!")
