Idea For A Team Duel Tournament

I've managed to do a series of chambers in the SP tutorial, but I've still never done a chamber to a stab. I'm not sure if it's even possible.


Yes i believe stab chambers is impossible atm, either that or very very hard.
 
This could be interesting conceptually given some people don't want to join big clans or form big teams, others just prefer duel as a mode and I think it'd be neat to have a more broadly-facing competitive scene in this niche. Anyway the jist of my old thoughts:

At the time, I ended up with a team duel of 4v4 where each team independently selects their order and standardized weapon/gear loadout*. Match scoring would effectively follow the winners of ft7s, with points earned used to break ties. The tourney itself could play out in whichever methodology people wanted, swiss or just RR, or something else if more fitting - I hadn't bothered looking that far ahead.

I wanted to see more variety than just greatswords being used and also wanted to see how various mismatches and personnel choices would impact outcomes (do you run your best duelist with the GS or your weakest, to hopefully give them an advantage?).

*Greatsword, Twohander, Heavy Bastard, Bastard - only used these as 1handers were almost never considered from what I saw.
And armour, bastard had heaviest, GS had lightest

Something like this could still work - I still like the idea of the teams choosing their order as that could make for some unplanned matchups and outside meta should there be some equipment variety available. The tennis-style system Eb painted in the OP would work as well, providing a more clinical approach where skill tiers are more defined.


Regardless, for any meaningful event to be worthwhile the actual game mode kinda needs to be present first (I understand development is planned). Something to consider here would be simply making a Duel faction, specifically for this mode, with classes sporting a progression of swords and armour at the same gold cost. My instincts would be to model them after swadia - short sword, longsword, bastard, heavy bastard, twohand, greatsword, and either have one set armour for all, or gradation from one end to the other.

Alternatively could just do one class that can select different weapons as granted in perks, to the same effect. The point being, if this faction can only be used in duel mode, you don't need to worry about balancing it to other factions/modes at all, thereby allowing focus on providing the preferred breadth of equipment without having to worry about gold.

Or in some conjunction, provide weapon spawners in the map(s) for the gamemode so that people can work off of the faction(s) and loadouts and still get the weapons they want.
