Idea for a new Mafia mod

Hey guys,

I had an idea for what I think would be a cool mod.  How about a Mafia based mod?  early 1900's Italian Mafia.  I was thinking it could center around the old Dons, Salvatore Maranzano and Joe Masseria, as the head of their respective families, which would be the factions for this mod.  The Claimants would be Lucky Luciano to Maranzano's faction, and i don't know who would claim Masseria, because Luciano took out both on his own, but we could add someone in.  The heroes would be the other famous gangsters from that time period, and maybe even some of the later ones, such as John Gotti.  The weapons would fit the time period, meaning strictly guns, and possibly the use of some sort of automobile (i'm not familiar with M&B's module system possibilities) as the transportation, rather than horses.  As far as the towns and castles go, i'm not sure how we'd work that into the mod and the sieges and all, but i'm sure there's a way.  Quests would consist of hits and that sort of thing, and the spy quests are good still too.  Also, i was thinking that the player could create their own family (faction) if they choose to.  Lords and tose things would be the Capos, and the Underboss is the Marshall.  Mercenaries would be Irish, Russian, and other criminals and dangerous people during that time.  As far as actually working on the mod, i have no experience in modding, but if i can get people who want to work on this mod and are willing to teach at the same time, i'm more than open to helping with the creation of it.  And anyone who wants to just work on this mod alone, you're welcome to the idea, i don't care who makes it, i just thought it'd be a cool idea.

OR

I was thinking that the mod could focus on Luciano and the other families' time in control, after Maranzano and Masseria, and their claimants could be other rogue gangsters.  The rest of it would stay the same, just the storyline and factions would be different in this version.

If anyone likes this idea at all, just post a reply and tell me what you think,a nd if you'd be willing to work on this mod at all.  feel free to PM me as well.

i was thinking it'd be cool to have a street-gang based mod, but with a very few firearms. bats, knifes, pipes, fists mostly. I had trial runs of army vs army hand to hand combat and it wasn't great, because you only use your right hand to backhand, *****slap, uppercut or plain old punch, and that looks ridiculous.

however the mafia didn't have massive shootouts in forests, and "mafia" were businessmen, never killing randomly, since they weren't street-thugs. only those that stood in the way of profit were shot, execution style, shootouts were a rarity.
so the army structure and combat philosophy of mount and blade wouldn't apply.
 
Ha, trust me, i understand the workings of the Mafia, one of my favorite subjects to study.  and i agree with the non-massive shoot-outs idea, and my proposal is a rough copy though. the bats and knives idea is also good.  but there were gang wars in history, and many of them lasted years, so this would be set during the time when shoot-outs and gang fights would have happened more often.  capturing castles and towns would be like the assault on a business to take it over too.  each place already has "protection" from a certain faction, and the goal is to force them to be under your "protection."  fights would, of course, be a bit smaller because at no point in time would 200 men on each side be fighting each other.  as for the hand-to-hand fighting, yea, you're right on that, so that would be dumb looking, but it wouldn't happen too often.  and is there a way to change fist-fighting styles?  i don't know, but if there wasn't, it could be worked around.
 
if somebody does want to pick up this idea and make a good mod out of it.

i think it could be good, if all terrain is city instead of grass, and each castle/town is like a building complex

however, it would be a bunch of guys standing across from each other shooting guns if the mod would be firearm based. so thats why i think this type of mod would work only if guns are pretty rare, especially anything bigger than a pistol. for small scale squad based combat (which is what small gang shootouts are), cover is essential and you can't duck in M&B

there was a post-apocalyptic mod based on a book a long time ago, which is dead now, and they had going a pretty good urban environment which makes city terrain seem feasible.

Yea, ok, i see what your saying.  Only like the highest level people could have guns, or at least large guns like a Tommy Gun, and few people would also have pistols.  i'd have to hear from people who do modding what changes are possible to the original M&B structure, as far as ducking and punching go, because i don't know.  maybe there's a way to mod the game to fit what this mod needs to become a really good Mafia based game, maybe there's not.  we'll find out
 
i say u just wait for mafia 2 to come out and you can all the fun with that game because the moutn and blade combat is not as sophisticated as for say assassins creed(hand- hand) or how you can cover your self in gta 4

Exactly, the street gang days, the rise of Mafia families in, well, i was thinking New York and using the Five Families: Bonanno, Gambino, Colombo, Genovese, and Lucchese.  or for the first way i proposed it, using the 2 families, Maranzano and Masseria.  I don't think it'd be too difficult to do.  its pretty much the change in map to look like a city, faction name changes, battle size changes, the addition of a pistol and maybe a Tommy Gun, and we'd figure something out with the horses.  as far as guns go, it'd be similar to the use of guns in Gun Thunder, just more modern guns, and no gun that shoot fireballs...lol.  I may not know much about, or anything about for that matter, modding, but i've seen enough mods released to know that what we'd need to change wouldn't be that much different from some of the other mods out there.
