Idea about how Battle mode would look like.

Hello everyone and happy new year!

As title say, i want to share my ideas about how this gamemode will look like in Bannerlord system with classes. With so little information, everything you will read here (if decide to do) are my guesses, so dont take so seriously. Also, i want to share the link where it was said there was a battle mode announced, in case any new player has joined the forum and dont know about it.

First there is something we have to assume and it is wheter we wanted it or not, we´ve stepped into a war with the cabals... i mean we have a class system in Bannerlord now and it will reamin as such in this ¨Single live mode¨, no matter how much it hurts us in comparison with Warband battle mode. So abstain of bring this topic to this thread if you please, and let focus on what we can do with what we have.

Secondly, with the class system remain the question: How would this ¨Single life mode¨ is going to work? Will the developers give money to everyone so they could choose which class we want to play? Or are they gonna limit the number of heavy classes could be played in a team, so only the people that kill the most could upgrade to this one in the next round? These cases bring uncertainty about the mode could be worthy but i think it could be a way to make it work, and to explain it, I will use as example a game which I took inspiration to make this post: Insurgency: Sandstorm.

This game is a sequel from Insurgency, and is a hybrid between CSGO and Battlefield, with a tactical hardcore gameplay and a class system where each class have gadgets and weapons they only can have at the beggining of the match (Similar to Bannerlord, unless here you can choose the clothes you are wearing). The gamemodes is focus on objective you have to capture/destroy/protect, but also there is the option to kill everyone in the enemy team to win. And here is where i want to talk about the gamemode Firefight and how it could be implemented in Bannerlord ¨Single life mode¨

In Firefight there are three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral and each team only respawns when they secure an objective. You can secure all objectives or eliminate all enemies to win. Simple, but disturbing. The knowledge you are the last one and you have to cap one of the enemies point to respawn your teammates, not knowing if there is a sniper picking the corner you have to cross to enter or a specialist on the point with a shotgun protecting it can be the worse feeling in this game, and the class you are with the equipment you have choosen it would be decisive to your performance.

With this brief introduction to the sources I have taken this idea about battle mode, i want to make sure to everybody I dont want this exact gamemode in Bannerlord. I repeat, I dont want this gamemode in bannerlord, but a similar one. So, with no further explanition, lets begin.

My Idea for battle mode would be the classic one we have in Warband: both team appears in the battlefield to fight each other. The difference here:

-Each team will start with 140 gold (Enough money to get a low class at the beggining, reserving elite classes for later)

-Each team have 3 weaves they consume when the flag appears.

-There is a flag it would appears randomly in the map after a few minutes (similar what happens in Mercenaries) and disspaear after a couple of minutes.

-If a team capture the flag this one disspear, granting the team that capture it an extra respawn weave.

-
Team damage ennable, obviously (this isnt TDM, come on)

If you have continued reading this post and you are not in the comment section replying about how developers dont care enough about the game, the class system sucks or praising "Soon", we still have a chance to discuss about how this proposition could fit with Bannerlord system.

As you can imagine, there is only one way to win here: Eliminate the entire enemy team. There is the chance the battle finish before the first flag appears or there is someone random waiting in the edge of the map to wasting everyone time, but there were always this kind of player in Warband before so....

What I want to discuss are the minors details about this mode: (*)

-Everyone can respawn as they want (Except heavy infantry, elite archer or heavy cavalry) and no class limitations.

-Beside the gold you got from assisting/killing someone, everyone who stay alive should get the lowest ammount of money for any class it has died. (let me
explain this: If a peasant or light archer die, 1 gold should be rewarded to every living member in the team,
if a skirmish or berserker die, 2 golds; a light cav 3, an elite archer 5, and heavy infantry 6 and a heavy cavalry 8)
This way we rewards: Staying alive and prioritize killing high enemy classes to support the team. Two highly appreciated behaviors in battle mode.

-Flag appears at the beggining every 5 minutes, but after the third spawn, it appears after 8 minutes, then 10 minutes, and finally 15 minutes. Flag stay for 2 minutes before dissapering again and resetting the count down.

-Respawn location should be at the edge of the map, a place where it could be safe to respawn but not enough to camp it (like houses or boats) it could also rotate, so team dont respawn in the same place consecutively.

-There should be a suicide option for players to respawn with their teammates on next weave if they consider have enough gold to purchase a higher class. Time to die, choose class and loadout shouldnt take more than a minute.

This gamemode could fit different playstyles and strategies, from clanes or solos while keeping an eye on a having a balanced team.

An entire team of two-handers could easily wiped by a mix team of archers, skirmish, infantry and light cavalry before the first flag spawn; a solo light cav could go be a kamikaze and take down an enemy player with higher class, eliminating him from this round and rewarding the team with more money; a team with less spawn will be more aggressive to finish the enemy team before it appears the next flag, or viceversa, could adopt a defensive position and try to survive to the next flag to cap it and get a new wave.

Obviously everything seems to work in my head (even the idea of teamplay in battle mode) but this is what we could have with the system that TaleWorlds has given us. Problems could exist, such as how to calculate the random spot on the map where the flag will appear (or even if a flag could appear and disspear, idk how this engine works) the spawn location for the new weaves to spawn without getting spawnkilled or close enough of the flag, this new system to reward money without kill or even participate in the fight; but thats why i want to discuss with all of you, if you think it is worth your time to reply in this thread or just another disillusioning post about what this game could be. In any case, we still have Duel mode in production, right guys......?

(*) while written this, I thought a different way to play. I remember in the Persistent World mod we played games where everyone has 999999999 gold and could become whetever class they want, then they will choose their loadouts and teleport to the battlefield where they wait untill the admin start the event. A similar could be made here in bannerlord, where you choose a class with ¨passive perks¨ (more armor, what kind of horses you will ride, some new perk they could invent...) then you respawn in a camp with infinite ammount of weapons and arrows to choose and after that you start the battlemode. No weave system, no flag, just pick your favourite class with your favourite weapon and play the round. But then you will to hardcode to avoid heavy inf taking arrows of light cav with northern hammers. So I stay with my original idea above.

Anyway, thanks for reading, forgive me if you find mistakes with the grammar and comment your own opinion about this idea i had or how do you think it will arrive this gamemode to bannerlord.

See you Soon™!

I enjoy the Sandstorm game mode but considering it has respawns, it's not really a single life mode? This seems more appropriate for a competitive version of Skirmish or similar.

Yeah, It wouldnt be as such "Single life mode", but developers call it that way. I just tried to understand how they could create a battle mode with the system we have. Also, skirmish is already the competitive version on this game, I aim for a more casual experience.

Battle mode should be like the one XIIIth and Hawkband did a while ago. It was very enjoyable. Devs were there as well playing with us so I guess they know how much we enjoyed that one so I think some kind of battle mode is already in their plans, hopefully.
I played Insurgency for a long while as well and it was a fun game I think devs can add a few aspects from it as you suggested.

What we all expect from Battle Mode is a single life per round and a Large amount of players.

Class selection could work by letting each player choose priorities for his classes and then assigning players to classes based on these priorities under the constraint that the overall faction budget must not be violated.
For subsequent round the budget can be adapted according to the overall performance of the team and individual performance.

I see a problem with this. I think that granting extra gold to kill heavier classes will only encourage ranged camping, especially with classes like Sharpshooter who can basically 1-shot headshot any class in the game

Hey so just to clear things up, this is roughly what we have in mind for the battle mode design. I wont go into to much detail as some things are subbject to change. This is just to clear things up before this discussion goes off into to many directions.

We'll definetly only give players a single life per round. Otherwise your suggestion isnt to far of from what we had in mind:

Imagine Battle to be like one life Skirmish, but without the 12 player cap and with a “TDM like” gold system, that rewards you for your performance. Similar to M&B Warband, where you get gold for kills. In Bannerlord we expanded on this, so you'll not only get gold for kills, but also for assists and other things like staying alive. The amount of gold you get is dependent on the difference in value between yours and the opponents class. (You get more money for killing high value troops, and you'll get even more for doing it with a cheap class)

Your starting money and rewards are quite different to the current TDM model.

So you'll pretty much always be able to play most of the light and medium classes. If you want to play some elite class, you'll need to perform well to be able to afford it again, or perform ok but stay alive. It hinders the slippery slope you sometimes found yourself on in M&B Warband Battle, giving you loads of comback potential when playing cheaper troops (since you get more money and the opponents get less for killing you).

We hope this will lead to somewhat balanced teams, in terms of their troop composition.

Thoughts on implementing a multiplayer campaign to Bannerlord like the one in Rising Storm Vietnam 2 in format of battle mode? Like gold etc. would carry on to the other battle in a different map with different objectives and next map would be dependent on what's the outcome of the battle? So battle mode wouldn't be just go out on the field and kill everyone, it would have dynamic objectives. Still with only one life of course. This can be improved upon so much imo.

Sounds pretty nice.

About the gold for staying alive aspect:
In most one life modes I have encountered so far each match sees one team completely dead and the other team near completely dead. From a roleplaying perspective I think most people wouldn't sign up for a battle if the survival rate was that low.
Do you think one could get a battle mode to work and be fun where fleeing the battle when a round seems lost is a viable strategic decision to enable an easier comeback?

Maybe they could make a Last Stand function, where there is a rally point for the losing team, basically telling them to come together to either start a desperate fight for victory, or a last hoorah before defeat, and that could give you extra gold if you are able to idk get to the rally in time, or do a "formation" award system like in War of Rights where the game rewards you for staying with friendlies. Feel free to dissect or add on to whatever im trying to say with this

I think this would simply make good players over powered. Now idk what its like to be a complete noob in this game cause ive got to many hours in Bannerlord, but imagine giving players who continually get on top the leaderboards for TDM and Skirmish the ability to spawn as top tier troops round after round, it would be a slaughter like in the other gamemodes and would only cause people to turn away from the gamemode
