Even though I did read about the bandits moving around more intelligently now in one of the dev blogs, I really do hope that bandits will have more of a role in the game. Not just be fodder for you once your party reaches a certain level. So that got me thinking....

Wouldn't it be great if you could strike a deal with a powerful bandit lord to undertake tasks for you ... basically pay large bandit groups to raid the caravans or villages of enemy factions?

Or perhaps pay them to smuggle highly prized but illegal goods between major cities for your 'business' ? A proper black market in Mount and Blade.

Just some ideas to give them more of a role.

Any other ideas? What do you think?

I like these ideas.

It woould be nice also if bandits sort of have an underlying point and not just swarming around their bases pointlessly as in MB.
 
I do know there is a perk that allows you to actually recruit bandits into your party. I'm sure the idea would be great, but it would only be viable if you yourself are a criminal. Why would you have bandits undertake missions trained elite soldiers could?

It would be cool to see bandit lords, although that might be a bit too much campaign action between them along with minor factions running around. If anything, it would be neat if they had it so that only deserters of the same faction could band together if they come across a certain radius on the campaign map, and after a certain number of units are reached are given a generated AI commander.
 
It would be nice if you have a reputation of bandit slaying, they stay away from your fiefs or your faction and cause other factions or lords to have economic troubles, then they could ask you for help. Maybe you could give then unofficial permission to raid the villages of lord you don't like.
