Sup, I plan to become a vassal to King Harlaus of Swadia, forge good relations with the Swadian lords, fight wars and eventually oust old King Harlaus and crown myself as the King!

But is that possible?

You can be king of your own kingdom, but you can't be king of Swadia instead of Harlaus. You can take over all the Swadian lands and name the kingdom Swadia2, but that's as close as you'll get I'm afraid.

Remember to make your companions lords before you ask the lords of the faction your taking over. Obviously do this once you rebel. This is important because lords will usually not join unless the faction they are joining (yours) has good military support already. Also, it would help if you had higher persuasion skills. I rebelled and tried getting all the lords to my side immediately and none of them joined, now I can't ask again. It would also be a good idea if you could have 1 or 2 fiefs with no lord.

I would advise against using your companions as lords. They are valuable fighters in your army and do a lot more good there with their party skills and all. Besides, they tend to have low leadership attributes, unless you have build them with a lot of charisma, which means they'll never have an army of more than 60-70 since they don't level up after you make them lords.

Just make sure you have good relations with other lords, typically 30+ and they will join you eventually. As mentioned, keep fiefs open as they will attract lords to your court and build up a good army, both in your castle(s) and in your party so you have the military strength they are expecting from a king.

Well, I use cheats so.... I guess it's a little different

On a side-note; you may want to set them up as your vassals anyways. Of 8 possible companions (without running into morale issues), up to 6 can be "noble". Setting them up with a castle each, especially if they are terminal level and are adding redundant party skills, can be their best use. I prefer to recruit & train the commoners first (to a reasonable level) and then ask them to leave the party before seeking out the nobles for a bit more training and, eventually, to set them up as half-decent vassals. I tend to put them in charge of castles and having 6-8 devoted vassals with a 50-100 man army has been decent for me before. Sure, you can do better, but at least you get a few free/easy vassals that'll help you attract the rest. Besides, they can still levy a decent defense force for castles. If nothing else, they're cannon-fodder until you can arrive to bail them out of trouble.
