I think there should be more proficiencies

For example, imagine your leadership skill going up when you win battles, or your prison managment skill increasing as you capture and sell prisoners. Or how about your trade skill increasing as you escort caravans?

There could be a system very similar to the Weapon Master system in place now. Skills which are limited by the characters atributes which in turn limit the proficiencies of the character.

If anyone has played Betrayal at Krondor they had a great proficiency system. The characters just seem more alive without the "im gonna put a point of whatever into his skills when he 'levels up'". I like it when skills go up when you use them, it means that you create the character you want by playing in that way.

I've played this idea, and Runescape can suck my balls. But we're not going to get into that.

There's a mod for a RPG mod for Tribes that makes it so that there are two teams, Orc and Human. Each have a base, with a mine next to it. There is no shopping in this mod, everyone has a skill or two they specialize in, and they're valuable to the team. This is because there are no levels whatsoever in the mod, you get 20 SP (skill points) to put into your skills at the start, and that's it. You work on your skills and increase them over time, unlike the normal RPG mod, which had levels and quests and all that BS. This was just a strategic team PvP mod, where you must maintain your base, your team members and your resources. It was damn fun. The crew your team would need would include :
a woodsman, a craftsman, a healer (unless you like going to battle without some support), a miner, a tracker to spot distant enemies. Kind of funny actually, tracking was just a skill you trained, and you magically sensed where everyone was. The higher your tracking, the more distant the person can be with you knowing it. Magic is in the RPG mod, but in this PvP mod they implemented it well for a strategic team PvP mod. And you didn't have to download anything (unless you didn't have the base RPG mod).

That skill system kicks donkey -- I mean, ass.
