I really didn't want to be this disappointed

I bought Rocket League 2 years ago and I now have 1000+ hours on it. Does that make Bannerlord a bad purchase?

That wasn't the argument being made, you're discrediting what I said by drawing invalid connections.

I said for the money spent, Bannerlord isn't worth it over many other titles at lesser price points, even when they were in EA.

All things considered, Rocket League is way more worth it in value for Bannerlord and that's economic fact.

You can go look on https://steamdb.info/calculator/ to see your hourly worth of your purchase. For example the time I've spent on Garry's Mod actually paid off my purchase of $10 by a few cents.

So in basic economics, yes, Bannerlord is not worth that amount of money at the moment. It's a high price point for an unfinished game, a game they admit is unfinished, a game you admit is unfinished. It's unfinished, why should I pay almost full price?

No offence, it's just that in my eyes you're making it sound like having no super cool features makes it a bad game.
On the contrary, I love it as much as I did Warband, and therein lies the problem. I wanted more from a sequel. Maybe I am in the minority here and fighting a losing battle but I truly feel that it is not that far-fetched to hope for improvement across the entire spectrum of its prequel and to also surprise fans with innovative new features. Yes, there are new features but nothing mind-blowing. I simply wanted a little more than what is on offer.

Yeah that's fine I get that. I just don't appreciate when people try and make petty insults against me (not you btw) and make my arguments out to be flawed when the features I'm saying aren't there, aren't there.

You're a good guy, Noviix, but you're wasting your time.

Any and all perceived issues in this game are dismissed as "early access road-bumps." This forum is a think-tank for idiots rationalizing sunk-cost, and an 8 year development cycle with nothing to show for it except a re-skinned Warband-lite with some QoL UI features. 8 years of hype has created a mob mentality of "this is fine" while the game crashes incessantly, quests bug out, and "STRING_GOES_HERE" dialogue pops up.

It speaks volumes when the people praising this game would rather spend time carefully dissecting your criticism of the game rather than playing the game they hold so dear. They're probably doing so intermittently between the freezing and crashing.

Don't waste your time any further and save yourself the headaches. You waited 8 years, what's another 1 or 2 years when this game is somewhat feature complete and in a playable state.

You've convinced me to close the forum for a bit, I appreciate it. Much needed clarity check and I couldn't have put it any better. I trust that this is all that needs to be said on the topic for now. Cheers.

I certainly didn't buy Bannerlord for the full experience. If I wanted the full experience I would have waited for the full release (although my "hype" and the long wait wouldn't have allowed me to). I consider it as a future investment. Feel free to disagree with me (as you do).

I've read most of the comments here, but i dont think others read past the first topic... HE said he likes the game, just missing a ton of core features to his liking. Doesn't mean he is wrong at all... some ppl need to chill and let the person explain why he feels its incomplete EA or not.

I got a question for the ones that say that Bannerlord has no cool features. What did you expect? A full GTA in middle ages? I mean looking apart the things that arent currently working because its EA and thats normal (again if they wont work in the full release ill be the first to complain), what did you expect from bannerlord? Every feature they have said is in the game or is planned to be.

So please enlight me

Why don't we all agree to disagree.

I'm probably one of those people too, but some things can't be changed. I don't think I'm an idiot for believing in a game regardless of how long it's being developed.

Noone can answer that because it isn't. There're some cool new features (and some more not added yet) but nothing extraordinary so far.

Ahem...

  1. Kingdom voting and management, incredibly better, much more flexible.
  2. Dynasty systems to have children and have a much larger 'clan' system which you can command, not just yourself. Including other parties, caravans, etc.
  3. Map design is not just prettier, it's better. Choke points, terrain, a huge number of things create a much better map. Smarter party AI also means a better map experience by far.
  4. The combat AI, oh my LORD the combat AI. Push F6 sometime and watch your army actually do intelligent things, rather then blindly charge, stand still, or get bogged down. Cavalry actually charges and retreats to charge again.
  5. Fighting AI is also quite a bit better in terms of reflexes, but also in terms of positioning.
  6. Seige AI... repositions archers, moves to attack multiple angles. It's night and day from warband. And the pre-battle siege is also interesting.
  7. Castle and Town management is much better now, the militia system is great.
That's just the things I managed in five minutes. The real key point, is that you need to compare bannerlord to warband, not to warband with mods. That's the key gap most people seem to be having. Bannerlord will have mods, they will be even better. this is the bones, not the muscles.

All right, lets watch this (you probably won't understand it because it's in the Turkish language, I'll translate the important part) (video)
The interviewer asks something about 8-year stuff, not related.
Armagan "Sure we didn't say "We'll release it in 2019 let's just announce it now"when we decided to announce it (Bannerlord), but it is like this.. Although we have experience from our previous games, there isn't enough Know-How in Turkey. Our staff is extraordinary(positive meaning) skilled but our friends (employees) who come to work with us don't come to us with a lot of experience, they learn while they are working We also learn while we are working"

Nice thanks for the translation ☺

So if you dont believe me, believe the devs hahaha as I said they arent a triple A company with 10+ years of experience in game developent with big teams and big proyects. So this 8 years were not just coding coding coding making a feature per day. Its a learning company and you guys should think of that.

Maybe the way the hype has been build around this game is part of the problem, and the people where expecting a game with the characteristics of a Rockstar Game...

I said this in another discussion and I feel it needs repeating here:
"It is not our job as players to sell this game, the game should sell itself based on its own merits"

If this game is everything you dreamed off in a M&B game and you have complete faith that the developers vision will meet your expectations then that is absolutely great and I sincerely wish you many hours of gameplay bliss.

I'm unfortunately a little cynical when it comes to Early Access.
That is not to say that the devs will not deliver, but if what we currently have is what they can produce over the course of 7-8 years then i'm not holding my breath for any revolutionary changes over the coming year. It's a pragmatic approach based on the evidence at hand.

To the devs, if you happen to read this: It is my belief that those who share my views don't want to be pessimistic for the sake of being edgy on the forums. We hoped for more but understand that you poured your hearts and souls into this. As a consumer it is difficult to fathom how, given that you had a fully functioning blueprint for this type of game, so little could have been done during the development cycle. What we have is a great sandbox with most of the features we are all familiar with and that is terrific. It just isn't a vastly improved experience and that is what some of us really hoped for. I hope you can surprise us and deliver something great by the time this leaves EA. Regardless, I will play this game and find fun in it as I did in Warband.

I also think this discussion has now run its course.
There's a lot of passion here and some of it can lead to heated debates but that is only to be expected.
Happy gaming to you all!

It's unfinished, why should I pay almost full price?

I mean, everything is worth as much as people are willing to spend. Nobody is forced to buy it, it's pretty clear that it's unfinished, and if someone says "That's too expensive for me for an early access game", they are free to wait longer.

I don't feel like I've paid too much.

Imo regarding this thread and from a fly on the wall perspective, The attackers of BL were far more logical, mature, and articulate than BL defender's. The blind loyalty was blatant and cringeworthy (With the exception of Malorn's post (which was a shiniing beacon in a dark sea of pretentiousness and ignorance) well written and reasonable. Well done Enridem, Noviix, and the other member beginning with an N.

Ya, with regards to the combat, I don't see it being any different, maybe I will boot it up tonight to test, but it looks the same, the graphics are cleaner. But let's be clear, some mods had done pretty well with the graphics, this looks like a change in the style of graphics than a huge upgrade. Still, I am hopeful the engine allows us to so some stuff we couldn't do before. I look forward to be able to try out the the siege mechanics.

everyone has his own opinion... I could say the opposite

This is definitly not happening everywhere, its a matter of what people have you been interacting with

they are getting bad reviews by ppl like you who can't read a single dev blog or watch a single video before buying... I don't need you in the ea, you can come back later.... graphic mods will also draw beautiful things like u see in fully modded skyrim. btw I like Skyrim too and I like M&B and heard over the last 6 months what to expect from the early stage of early access.....
The graphics suck but god damn is the pvp fun.
I am enjoying MP and will do the campaign when they iron out the game

Respectfully, take a look at the steam forums...

Blind loyalty is certainly not reasonable. But at the same time, attacking taleworlds for releasing a beta which they said was a beta seems...very unreasonable. And honestly, I've seen a lot of people say things which imply a lot of entitlement, or a desire for the game to cater to what they want. The blind hatred of the age mechanic, for example. It is likely that we 'hear' arguments opposing our own more then those which we agree with.

Equally, I critized the game about not having automatic blocking throughout a thread, yet no one attacked me, and everything remained pretty civil overall on both sides. I think it rapidly becomes a game of reaction and overreaction, until both sides seem very extreme from a outside point of view.
