I need me a hammer

Sergeant Knight at Arms
I'm getting really sick of my two handed sword not doing **** against heavily armored knights, which I am fighting more of thanks to the power of my 13 hired Noldor warriors  :D.  Anywho, I need a really good longish range blunt weapon to use thats not a spear or lance.  When they get in close I use my claymore to push them away, and I suppose that works alright, but I need something with a little more range and oomph to keep the crowds at bay.  Any recommendations?

There are polehammers?  I want one.

The best I've been able to find is a Balanced Warhammer, which I think has something like 33 bludgeoning damage and is a one-handed weapon (so you get to keep your shield).  You might also be able to find a good one-handed piercing weapon in the form of a military pick or some such.  It's also worth pointing out that the Estoc (such as that carried by Sara the Fox) is a two-handed piercing-only sword.  I'm not sure, however, whether Bludgeoning or Piercing is better against heavy armor -- I just know they're both better than cutting damage.

I'd sure like to find a good two-handed bludgeoning or swing-piercing (instead of stab-piercing) weapon other than those ridiculous-looking mauls.  Something like a Lucerne Hammer, or a military-pick-on-a-longer-stick, or something along those lines.

Cheers.

I completely concur... and have added some cool looking blunt and pierce weapons, one and two handed to the next release.  There is a great two handed military hammer that the Sarleon Knights use now instead of that stone aged maul :)...( I will take responsibility for that little lapse in judegment :) ).

I liked the stone maul.  Brings a little more barbaric atmosphere when slaughtering those uppity Sarleon armies.

Oh, the stone maul is all fine and dandy for, say, Mystmountain Bandits (if they wanted something like that), but if you're going to be civilized about it, you need something like this:

Only bigger, the better to crush your skull with.

Hey Sax, not sure how you feel about this but any chance of a 1h/2h blunt style weapon?  Maybe like a scepter or something?

I just created introduced a bastardaxe which would have the same properties.. how about we take that long polehammer and make it a 1 or 2 handed weapon?

Making a polehammer a "bastard weapon" would be like doing the same to a scythe or bardiche.  It's just too unbalanced, in terms of where the weight is, to be effectively used one-handed.  This is why most of the normal one-handed axes in the game have shorter reach than their sword counterparts -- it's just too hard to swing something like that around without the leverage of two arms.  Swords are capable of being produced in "hand and a half" or "bastard" form because their weight is much more balanced and evenly distributed, so it's easier to maneuver even when it's slightly longer than one might normally be accustomed to.

Now, you could take one current one-handed hammer or axe options and make those into "bastard" weapons -- basically, something that's small enough to be used one-handed, but which would still be conducive to "doubling up" when the situation warrants.  I think the Ravenstern war axe (or whatever it's called) would be a great candidate for such a thing because it already looks longer than anyone would be comfortable wielding with only hand -- shorten it up a little bit (in terms of appearance, not necessary statistical "reach") and make it 1h/2h, and it would be set.  You could do something similar with the current "warhammer" weapons (you could have 1h "military hammers", 1h/2h "warhammers", and 2h "great hammers", "pole hammers", or lucerne hammers).  They would still have shorter reach than the true two-handed versions, since otherwise they would be nearly impossible to use one-handed (probably no more than 90 reach or so), but you could still put the oomph of two arms behind them.

Cheers.

True,
BUT wouldn't it be nice to be able to get a snazzy unique long 1 1/2 (1 or 2) handed "bastard" polehammer?  I'd like that option (hint, hint) as something in, say, a chest hidden somewhere...
My 2 cents.

Thanks for listening,
Ensais
