I love BannerLord.

I love bannerlord too! The people who say they hate this game are elitists from warband that are POed that their warband skill doesn't transfer to this game entirely this game isnt bad it just isnt warband.

That's not true. Skill does transfer. Also people got already used to the mechanics of Bannerlord (myself included) yet there are factors, such as delays, that limit your skill so much - it clearly does kill any fun and led to frustration. Warband was sucessfull for a reason: it wasn't as over complicated and worked fine once you mastered it's mechancis - something that's currently not possible in Bannerlord. It's absolute madness having a decent level of skill yet you die due superfast hits (I can't even see my own swings on some hits), blocks that aren't working although the animation is there. Hits that don't register and also weapons that barely do any damage against certain troops (7-15 dmg hits against oathsworns, legionaries and so on). Even worse are TDM matches such as Khuzait vs Aserai on a openfield map whereas infantry becomes completely useless, simply due the fact you can't land two hits without beeing shot in the back, bumped / lanced down by cav or get a javelin in your face right after a spawn. It's a mess and needs to be adressed.

The game needs some work and its only going to get better and im excited for some updates and changes but in its current state its extremely playable.

Thats exactly what people are worried and mad about. The lack of communication is as bad as puring oil into fire. For myself the game hasn't improved since the beta - the exact opposite has happend, it's performing worse than ever such as FPS drops and packetlosses that makes it pretty much unplayable since 1.4.2 whereas I had no problems before.

People wouldn't care at all if they would hate the game.

That's not really love, that's an emotionally abusive relationship. You know, how one partner only really ''loves'' the other for what they could be, but not for what they are.

It's a joke.
Theres a difference between wanting to change a human being and a game though. Its normal to want a game to be better.

So you learned how to block, cool. Now learn to chamber properly in a duel, use footwork and stances effectively, learn a way to quickly "dismantle" your opponent :sneaky: you can't? Take on some average joe who can block too and you got 5 minute duel (unless someone couch you from behind or shoot you). In this state its really about hit-block-hit-block

Skill does transfer, i was a average players right from the first game , but theres one type of warband intuition that doesnt transfer and i am still unable to remove this way that i have of fighting : constantly starting swings but cancelling them to block when you see that your opponent Will hit faster. On bannerlord you cant just recklessly start swings, the block delay Will end Up messing you Up. On warband you always had Time to cancel a swing to block instead. Hundreds of hours of doing that on warband makes it so hard to deal with the block delay of bannerlord

We shouldn't ever expect this game to turn into warband because it wont. This game offers a lot of improvements on warband as well especially in the cav department. What are the improvements to cavalry you see? Is it the actual horse mechanics or the classes design/role in gameplay? I'm curious to understand.

Agreed, personally I don't mind realistic block delay, it's an unnecessary variable, but once accounted for it doesn't require any faster APM or reactions than a split-second warband block does. It is rather counter-intuitive though and leads to alot of shield-smacking contests due to players being afraid to push hard angles and being unable to block from positioning.

It also ends in alot of mirroring, it's safer to attack the same direction as your opponent did than switch and risk a gamble strike. At the highest and lowest levels, this mirroring is less prominent but at the mid-level fights really are just slogfests, especially if none of them have got kicking down to a fine art yet.

Maybe a shift from throwing weapons being predominantly anti-personel to anti-shield might induce some more aggressive gameplay but it doesn't really address the core problem.

Im willing to bet infantry get more kills from throwing weapons than their main melee weapon, especially if its one handed.

List them
  • Epic unblockable shield bump
  • Moar spin (and running away after spinning)!
  • Block delay
  • 20 foot long leg along with kick timing that isn't skill based
  • Unplayable on high ping
  • Infantry play based on gimmicks rather than mechanical skill
  • eZ couch
  • No need for cav to worry about them pesky infantry!
I can't believe people don't think this games skill cap is as high as warband, smh my head!

we all love bannerlord, thats why we passionately want it to become the game that it should be in all its greatnes

Put yourselves in the developers shoes. They are people. And guys are so toxic towards them. We are so hell bent about telling them what they got wrong, you are not caring to share what they got right.

Gonna try and act as mediator here before this kicks off;

1) We all love Mount & Blade & it's not wrong to love Bannerlord (even with its current issues).
2) You CAN adapt to how the game functions now but that doesn't mean it's correct as it currently stands.
3) There are significant ways the game could be better.
4) In our hearts we all love TW for giving us the foundations of the game of our dreams. Bannerlord will rise; we just need to keep to it.
5) it is EA; yes yes 8 years of development... but development is still on-going.
6) We shouldn't argue... we all share lots in common. In reality we should be friends - lets not let this community grow anymore bitter.

This is sensible. Thanks.

Agreed, there are some that feel that way. there is some skill transfer but its not as much as some wanted.

One of the upset ones about skill transfer, further exacerbated by playing on Geforce NOw.

Chambering doesn't work, give them time they will fix it. It easy to dismantle someone if they are feint happy, its called spam.

How to overcome .block Delay:

As a former Warband player, we are used to readying attack, and perhaps launching into a block, if we see an attack coming. THIs got me killed alot because of block delay in bannerlord.

To overcome, I trained myself, to keep my finger off the attack key, when I am being attacked. It took some time, but eventually I adapted into my playstyle, and my problem is in the past. When it is the "turn": of your opponent to attack, you must remove your finger from the attack button, so your warband instincts don't take over. Trust meit works.

Given time and patience, good players at warband will become good players in Bannerlord. Because the reason we got good,at Warband had nothing to do with mechanics but our mentality to master what was presented to us.

You dont have to tell me what spam means. With spams its only easy to dismantle noobs. Even average skilled player will not feint since feinting doesnt really work either in this game because of those delays. Plus spamming someone doesnt really require skill but looks stupid and should be punishable as it is in Warband.

what was presented to us was a game with almost no skill-ceiling, what we have now is the opposite.

And... even when not holding your LMB, the blocks are just still too unresponsive so no, it does not come up to player skill. Who wins and loses in duel comes to animation abuse, kick abuse and perhaps then, to some sort of a skill or experience. If you had played for long enough, you’d know that certain block transitions are impossible to execute in time, therefore you take a free hit in process. Also, how one can like the hit-block fiesta with shields... I just can’t wrap my head around that. If you are good with what we have - game with no place for reactive blocking, awesome 2-3v1 clutches and basically 10x lowered skill cap compared to Warband, yeah, nice, go play some casual siege and you might actually enjoy it for a few dozens, maybe hundreds of hours.

Theres a difference between wanting to change a human being and a game though.

Yes, this is the joke part of the comparison. You can't emotionally abuse Bannerlord, it's not a sentient being.

Its normal to want a game to be better.

It's also normal to want a human being to be better. This is the part of the comparison that does hit home. It's very easy to trick yourself into believing that loving the idealized version of something in your head is the same as actually loving it. A person who yells to another: ''If I didn't love you, I wouldn't be so angry with you all the time.'' isn't acting out of a place of love. While you may not be yelling to another person, you too aren't acting out of a place of love. You may be acting out of a place of selfish desire for example, because you want to play a really great game. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
