I Lost Marnid :(

Yeah, pretty much about a week ago I lost Marnid. I said the whole "we need to part ways", and "stay here" command. So I go off to a different area for a while and when I return to where I thought Marnid was, he was gone . I checked the four ways inn, and I've searched for hours but I can't find him! Any ideas?

he got killed by river pirates...
ALL BECAUSE YOU LEFT HIM THERE TO DIEEE!!!
poor marvcindgafdfd dude....

Margarine is always getting lost; and Borax is almost as bad. It would be cool if, after having left Borax waiting outside Wercheg on Day 673, you come across him on day 714 near Halmar being led in chains to the salt mines and you rescue him and he says, "You lot took your time getting here."

Or say Margarine is lost and you stumble across him in the Sargoth jail about to be executed and you rescue him and he refuses to say what he did with the war bow you lent him. So you have to go on a "Where did Margarine sell the war bow?" mission.

Next time when you part ways you need to tell him to wait at the four winds place, then he can wait there unmolested for as long as you need him to. Otherwise he will be running all over Hell's creation. These guys are just getting tired of the same old questions all the time and if you try a search on Marnid or Borcha you will learn all sorts of things to make the game more enjoyable.

Don't forget about my handy dandy FAQ sheet whenever someone posts this question for the nth time.

That FAQ sheet was a good idea, Ingolifs ... But I'd still be more surprised if people actually pay any attention to it! LOL

I'd still put money on there being another thread that pops up asking any one of those FAQ's within the next few days!

He's been chased off. He can't be killed or taken prisoner, but he's scared of enemy parties and will go to great lengths to escape from their clutches. If you really can't find him, use truesight and go collect him.

I lost Marnid a few days back too. I told him to wait for me somewhere between Rivacheg and Reyvadin, but then he wasn't there. I realized that he must have run off before enemy parties, so I searched that whole area, but no luck. Then I found this topic, and enabled the truesight, and looked over the whole map, but still I have not found him. Is it possible that he indeed got killed? Like he was not fast enough to escape an enemy party, that then caught up with him and killed him? I don't see him anywhere on the map, not even as a prisoner with another party (but I didn't check if he actually joined another party ) If he's not dead, where did he go? How can I get him back?
My version is .808

Thanks

Surely you can't be serious. I wouldn't worry about it just keep playing the game and he might show up. If you are obsessively compulsive just start a new game, it will be like it never happened. Borcha with his ultra weak 7 points of strength should be enough to irritate you in the mean time.

I know I would be seriously worried if I lost either one of them.  What with the surgery and map skills I have invested. That is why I have never suggested to either one of them that we part ways for even a moment.  I've seen too many confused threads about "where did Madrid go?" and on and  on.

I would not trust either one of them.  Especially that boozer, Marnid.  He probably is in some tavern somewhere, drinking off the the money he got by selling that sweet armor you gave him.

So can they just...dissappear?

I want to let them loose make it my mission to save them

Edit: I let Marnid go and let him get captured to see what would happen. The rest of the men with him were either captured of killed... He just disappeared. Unless if its...a bug..of if he was actually killed. I don't know

Yes, I am completely serious  I've played for a few days but he doesn't show up  I'm not gonna start a new game, cause I'm pretty far in the game, I don't wanna loose that. I've heard that many people get irritated by them, but they never seemed to bother me too much. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I wanna enjoy the game without stressful moments when an important member of the party gets killed by a peasant etc, so I don't play on a very high difficulty (game settings say 57).
As useless as they may still be in battle, they are very important cause of the skills invested in them. I knew they can wander off, but I always expected that I will be able to find them  But it looks like he just dissappeared  I had to let him go in this case, cause I was on a stupid "save the girl from the bandits" quest, and she wouldn't go in my "prisoner wagon"
Maybe the problem is that I wanted to put some soldiers with him, but then decided to use Borcha for that instead, but I sent Borcha alone to Four Ways accidentally? Got rid of them both in a matter of seconds? I went there the next day and picked him up without problems, but Marnid is gone....
And if I find out that he sold that armor, he better pray that I never find him
Really? He dissappeared? Man, that sux
I still hope someone knows a way to get him back....

Yeh it does suck because during battles they would rarely get knocked out and usually kill around 6 people between them. They were actually good. Yeh..you heard me...Borcha and Marnid were good fighters!
I'm just going to keep on playing because i'm doing quite well.

I heard you  In my opinion they were good too, with javelins and horses they would rarely get knocked out, and I've actually never been hit by one of their missiles, they do kill a few enemies, plus the tracking/pathfinding and healing skills are very useful.
The loss of Marnid is just lame, my will to play the game is somewhat decimated... I doubt I'll be playing it until this is fixed and I get my healer back.

There should be somekind of warning about this in the game, like when you leave them, they say something like: Don't take too long to get back though. I alone can't defend against larger parties, I will be forced to retreat before them... And god knows how long will I have to wait before it will be safe to come back again.

So that unsuspecting people will be confronted with the possibility of having to look for them for a long time, or even never getting them back, and would be more careful with the use of this function.

Isn't there an emoticon to word ratio that you aren't supposed to go beyond?  You must've been approaching it with this post.

I like the idea about the warning.  Having them look all worried and reluctant, maybe shuffle their feet and kick at the ground shyly and say something like "well, OK, but don't take too long" is kind of funny to imagine.

I wouldn't know, I'm pretty new here
And the emoticons are the only way to get the way you are saying things across the internet. If you'd be here in RL you'd known what I mean by what I say, over the internet you can't, therefore I find these emoticons very useful in getting that across, cause I don't want people misunderstanding what I say, taking jokes seriously and serious stuff as jokes (which happened anyway, lol).
But if there is such a rule, I'll try to keep it down. Not like I'll be hanging around much now with Marnid gone. I really hate that. I waited 3 days on the spot I left him, to see if he'll come back, and then I searched the whole map with trueshight enabled again, and he's nowhere to be found  I liked him, found him useful, included him in my plans, and since it doesn't look that much is getting done to fix this, or at least warn people of it (and judging by this forum, A LOT of people have had this problem), I see no point in playing it anymore (except the occasional very enjoyable single-handed slaughtering of a river pirate party) until a full version is released (or at least the next version, that may be worth checking out too).

Well, no worries, and welcome.  There is no such rule, I was just having fun.  ...And goodbye, it sounds like.  It's a shame your Marnid problem makes you not want to play.  Stick around!  Start a new game with a naked ex-nun warrior!  That might work for some fun.

Oh, I see  Good one, the newb fell for it  Sure, I'll stick around, if nothing else to see when a new version will be released
I wanna play, but its pointless. When I started playing, I spent HOURS in the Zendar arena, I wont the first 4 fights so I felt lucky, started betting money, then after 3 more fights I was penniless (denariless in fact ), which made me kinda angry, so I decided to get the money back, I started competing for free, then slowly betting a little, until I got the hang of it, then it was plain fun, plus making a good profit. I should mention that this was after my first encounter with 4 river pirates, so I was working with only 1/3 of my health in the arena, without ever noticing it until I spent the first night resting in the tavern. So with about 2000 denaris I went to the next town, Rivacheg I believe, and joined their arena, where I was shocked at the fact that the battles are not only 2vs2 or 3vs3, but up to 4 teams with many competitors  I was amazed by this, so I spent the next day (and I mean the RL day) fighting in that arena. Then I went forward to check other towns arenas, plus kill some river pirates, take up 2 peasants and and such. So I was about lvl 12 before even entering real combat. So I don't wanna loose that with starting over. Sure, I could use cheats to get the stats back up, but that wouldn't be the same. Also, my weapon proficiencies were way higher (about 200) than my weapon master skill from all the fighting I've been doing. Then Borcha and Marnid came along, making the game even more interesting. Seeing their skills, I assumed it would be best to continue to upgrade what they were good at, Borcha got many points in pathfinding/tracking, and Marnid got the trade and healing stuff. Now I've been roaming around without a healer and selling/buying stuff at ridiculous prices for a week, and I'm kinda getting sick of it. Even if there was a story, I wouldn't want to go completing it without him. I also have not chosen a side in the swadian/vaegir war, cause I can't decide which is better. I know swadians cost more (upkeep), but I'm not sure if they are worth it. And so far I haven't found any good objective answers here either, only preferences. Maybe I need to look more
And when the full version of the game is released, I'm gonna need to start from the beginning anyway, to catch all the improvements, the story, the four ways inn, etc etc  so I'm in no hurry to start over now, and in a few days again, and again at new version, and many times more before the final version is out....

Wow.  Very thorough.  Sounds like a good start.  Too bad about Marnid, though.  Like I've said, I never split up with him or that other guy.  I'm too scared by stories like yours.

Yeah I was impressed by the multiple team arenas, too.  I wish we had multiple team battles outside of cities.  My computer would probably have a meltdown, though.

Did you check out the arena in Sargoth?  It's very good for a quick buck.  It's either 1 on 1 or you vs. 3 others, every man (or sword sister) for himself (or herself).  You can back off and let 'em hack it out and come in for the win easy.

Yeah, neither side is objectively "better".  Although everyone on this forum tends to agree that the Swadians have stronger, tougher troops with better equipment, if that's what you're going for.  I joined the Vaegirs without knowing the differences, and I have a certain loyalty to them now.  Although I do like to recruit Swadian crossbowmen.  ...or kill them, depending.  I'm working on saving up for a whole army of crossbowmen.  As far as the cost of paying your troops, I wouldn't worry about that in the long run.  Once you hire some soldiers and start really fighting, you end up having more money than you know what to do with.

I started a few characters before finally settling in and sticking with one for the long haul.  It helped me figure out the beginning strategies of the choices you have to make.  I.E., what skills pay off to invest in early.  As you get higher in levels it takes forever to level up, so it becomes more difficult to change or re-route your character.

I thought I had a good run-on sentence a few posts ago somewhere.  Your "when I started playing" sentence blows that out of the water.

It was interesting to read your well worded story of how you developed your game beginning.  Thanks.
