I just lay claim to the HoboThrone in a noble effort to get Gabeed's attention.

We do not force you to act a certain way. We are just trying to provide a clean, bad language free environment for those of us who would rather not hear bad language and other inappropriate things that frequently happen on other servers.

So the real question is why do you have members in your clan that do not follow the most basic code of conduct of a Paladin in the first place?

Actually, on that note, I had an encounter with some PRT guy (Tetris, maybe?) today who seemed rather, uh, unbecoming of his uniform himself.  During a game, my ping spikes to around 800 (as it is wont to do ) and I'm fairly sure I hit this guy accidentally in a melee.  Well, I Alt-Tab, try to fix the ping, and when I come back I see that Tetris has DEMANDED AN APOLOGY (say that last bit out loud in a Christopher Lee voice).  Well, I'm no fan of melee friendly fire, and thus have a "you reap what you sow" attitude about it, but nevertheless I decide to do so, and was in fact planning on apologizing before he demanded it.  But as I'm typing this apology, he walks up behind me AND SLICES MY BACK OPEN in retribution.

This "eye for an eye/I'm angry and vengeful that my score might be influenced by some guy accidentally hitting me once" attitude is rather immature.  You see it from a bunch of people, too.  All of them so vehemently support melee friendly fire until some poor fool gets 800 ping like me, or accidentally turns the mouse ever so slightly so that a stab becomes a wide swing.  Maybe I should stop apologizing in such scenarios, since I'm a manly man and apologizing on the battlefield "wouldn't be realistic."

But I digress.  I left in a huff from the PRT server like the massive prima donna I am, and probably will hang out on that POM server more often (which isn't really that often anyway).  I'd rather not have experiences like that constantly, and as I've said above, I'm a bit wary of servers that demand apologies for every accidental melee ff occurrence.  I realize its' usefulness as a tool in figuring out who is just being a troll or whatnot, but it creates a rather resentful atmosphere, in my opinion.  And in melee cluster****s, soon you've got several people leaving battle to apologize, and soon in that wave of apologies it turns into that one scene in Deadwood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0XBHpXLkUs

. . . .bedtime.

Edit: Man, this post went long.  If it looks like I'm ranting and angry, I'm not.  I watched the 24 finale tonight and was quite pleased, because it wasn't a bull**** cop-out like Lost.

I actually hate Calamity Jane in that show, since it's just 2.5 seasons of her being drunk, boring, and swearing, and very occasionally being a drunk, boring, and swearing lesbian . . . .but that's possibly her best scene.

Al Swearengen was delightfully sober as he swore, as were most people, except for Jane and that one guy who liked to **** horses.

I apologize for the behavior of my clan member. I agree, this attitude is stupid and gets one no where, but I have trouble getting some of our clan members to see that...

Agreed.  I so frequent the PRT servers to avoid the childish dribble that permeates other servers, yet it seems lately the enforcement has been degrading.  Paladins not acting like paladins...which equals non-paladins.  Granted it is a better atmosphere than you can find most anywhere else but it has been worsening lately.  Appreciate PRT big time and hope they keep up the standards.

Hated to see you go, Gabeed.  Saw the apology demand, didn't know about the back-slash.  Please...grace again with your presence soon.  Much Respect.

*coughVAYZEcough*

Poor guy hates my guts.

However, I'm a big fan of the PRT server.  As a christian, I'd rather have my fun sans the profanity.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Christian tendency to not swear is more of a cultural thing (other than the blasphemy and taking the Lord's name in vain and whatnot), kinda like the wearing of the hijab in Muslim countries.

Yes and No.  Best to hold to Proverbs 10:32.  Of course what is considered perverse is a viewpoint held by a society so the words themselves are meaningless.  It is more the appearance using them or not using creates.  Of course appearances are not important, but it is hard to show yourself being apart if you act exactly the same.  Also by holding a tight standard on "language" as PRT does it mostly eliminates the usually accompanied derogatory comments which there is not doubt would fall below acceptable levels of respect.

The fact that there is cursing at all is stupid, as I've hammered into PRT members' heads again and again. Curse words are, in essence, just arbitrarily chosen words that are taboo in certain situations, for no apparent reason. For example, '****' is a curse word, but 'poop', (apparently crap is a curse, according to Ariel) meaning the same thing, isn't. I realize that many of the words have certain negative and insulting connotations to them, but other words can mean virtually the same thing, and aren't taboo; for example, how is saying someone is whining any worse than saying they are *****ing? They both mean the same thing, and yet one is punishable in certain situations; around children, for example. (although any kid past third grade will know the vast majority of 'curse' words in my experience)

Mind, I love me my PRT members, but they are a bit thick-headed sometimes.

Yes. I specially use the Whack-a-Mole hammer for it. [read: 2nd tier Rhodok hammer]

It's a matter of personal conviction, sure, but there are also passages of Scripture that I could cite that bind Christians to shun all derogatory or negative communication in favor of uplifting discourse.  I will not cite them, because in my vast shortcoming I'd look like a hyprocrite.

In my case, it's a stance made up of both conviction and personal taste.  I find even casual swearing to be crude and immature, and seldom find it humorous.

Of course, the bottom line here is that PRT restricts language, and anyone who doesn't like it can just &%$# the @^*(ing !$*& off, amirite?

This thread has switched from being a claim to the Hobothrone to a rant about how poorly some PRT members follow their own rules.
