I Hate My King

All these castles that I am singlehandedly capturing by myself are all going to this one lord... It makes me want to start my own kingdom and just rip all the lands from the Nords but I'm worried since I don't have that much land myself... anyone have any ideas? I'm level 31 with my highest stat being strength (31) followed by charisma (14) and then agility which is 12. ( Int being 10). Skills: Ironflesh 9, Power Strike 9, Weapon Master 2, Shield 4, Athletics 4, Riding 4, Trainer 3, Tactics 3, Inventory Management 1, Engineer 3, Persuaation 3, Prisoner Management 1, Leadership 4, Trade 4. Most of my party members are about level 10 with armor and helms of about 40 with horses. My army cap is 98 and my reknown 868. I own Veluca and Grunwalder castle (A castle that's right next to it) plus my vassal village and am currently taking lots of Khergit land to have it given to one lord... This is more a rant but what do you guys suggest I should do? Basically, my main fear is that by the time I have enough land to rebel against the Nords, they'll be too powerful, and my lands will be too scattered to effectively manage them all.

Try to increase your Leadership.. so you gain more morale and party size.
Charisma needed for that....

Next step or the step you do while doing it is make the King hate you... so he marks you as rebel.. if you ask him to be released from the oath you lose your fiefs..... so you got to rebel somehow against him.

Once you do that you control if you will find the guy who says he is the rightful King of that land and take the land in his name or become King yourself.

You say you fear Nords will be too powerful... that is nothing to worry about start making the Jarls hate each other.. never turn up for campaigns. Ask the Jarls how you can increase your standing in the realms by denouncing other Jarls and so on.. This will work wonders.... you can also raid neutral caravans and farmers to start war so Nords will be overpowered by all the wars against them. The nations are rather balanced and wont really expand without your help...

As I can mention the world had been 100% stable for months until I joined Rhodonks and managed to do many great victories against Swadia letting us Capture one of their towns and one two castles. But that started chain in where Nords managed to get Town from weakened Swadia and then Kerghit also took Town... and then Nords took another Town... and then their Counts started to go to other countries and Swadia was little and weak.

All right, thank you! Also, about making lords hate each other, the stuff you said, just seems like it'd make them hate me, and then recruiting them to my kingdom would become impossible?

Make them all unhappy and they'll start skipping to other kingdoms. The advantage here is that they take any fortresses they own if they rebel on their own. As the guildmaster says, the kings and vassals each have weapons against the other, and it's their reluctance to use them that keeps the kingdoms stable.

You can try to rebalance the realm by influencing fortress-holders to defect. If you can convince them to change to your kingdom, you can get back your kingdom's edge.

I ended up with an issue in my last games. In one, I joined Nords and went on to conquer almost all of Swadia (except a castle or two). They're the easiest faction to defeat--so long as you can avoid their Knights. Afterwards, we went on to defeat Vaegirs. The issue was that Nords then held around half the map--11/22 towns and most of the associated castles. So, naturally, Rhodocks and Khergits and Sarranids wanted to war us, but Nords became quite divided. Some lords were seriously favored and Ragnar instituted policies that increases his position but made him enemies with MANY of the lords of the realm. We're talking about over a dozen enemies--some of them still part of Nords, but others that defected. Luckily for him, the "old guard" (the major town-holders) were all friendly with him, though more than one castle-holder defected and took his castle. Nords was a mess--and also much of the reason that it's tough if not impossible for one faction to conquer everything.

Being your own King and only recruit Lords without fiefs and never award them a fief and somehow manage to beat all factions one by one you can easily win without any defecting you....

But yea the game is made so the larger you are the more chance of falling apart...... Let say you got every single fief but 1 castle and 1 village.... the chance of a lord defecting you each day is crazily high...... maybe even 100%

Thank you for the advice. But I have a question, if you are not a vassal to anyone i.e. a freelancer. Can you build businesses in any town without any negative effects?

Well, yes you can build businesses anywhere.. but if you do go to war with anyone they will close your business until your at peace.. so you can make a business at every single town... never make a war with anyone... have only 20-30 soldiers to stray away bandits... a lot of food..... and just wait until you got tons of money... getting too much renown will make the King's ask you to become their vassal and denying makes bad relation to them... and then when your money is so much that you can't ever spend it all and you already in best gear you can raise mass army and start your conquest.

Hmm... that sounds like a very good idea... thank you! Also, you said to make the lords hate each other, but all those ideas seemed like it'd mainly make them hate me, and then it'd be difficult to bring them to my kingdom, could you elaborate on that? 'Cause I think I might not have understood what you meant.

Ahh yes.. the one you denounce will hate your arse and may even ask for a duel!
But the one that suggested you to denounce him will like you.... So it kinda splits the kingdom up....

And as you mentioned difficulty to recruit them.. yes the ones you denounced... the other ones will be easier. It is not like when you control every single fief there will be a screen "YOU WON !!!! THE END!!! CREDITS!!!" Just a screen saying you unified the world congrats" and the game keeps on playing...

Anyways I wont reply instantly again... I am off to play Warband.

Okay, thank you so very much for all the ideas.  I use Steam so I use the forums while I play. ;p

Also, quick question to anyone, if I accept the claimants quest before getting the king to hate me, will that count as rebelling?

Yes it will count, but first u gotta renounce your oath to ur king

I actually just found out you can join a claimants 'cause without renouncing your oath, you just say an oath to the claimant and boom, there you go.
