I don't know you, peace to you stranger

We did the voice acting for PoP mod - the Devs can if they want and certainly have the resources for it. But if the fanbase lets them off the hook with so many things being "too expensive for this tiny team" -then thats exactly what they'll do. Path of least resistance reigns supreme in many niche turned mainstream Game companies
exactly, anyone in the know of how acting works has the same view as we do mate... It's not expensive, it's actually an extremely underpaid job, so much so that most voice actors run freelance gigs constantly to even be able to survive

Well, it might not be time consuming and it may not be as expensive as other things, but I still struggle to understand why any sort of money from Taleworlds went into it. It's not a feature anyone needed, but there are other parts of the game that greatly could have benefited from whatever time or funds they did put into VA.

well the result's that the money hasn't gone there nor anything else really... If I'm to pick between nothing and something I prefer something any day

Am I understanding you right that no money was required to do that VA work? If so, I find that really hard to believe, but I guess it could explain why the VA work is so bad. ☠️

Sorry didn't understand what you're saying... Generally what revolves around pushing their staff to do doesn't require extra $ investment, the expenditure remains "in-house" which's basically what they would spend anyway if they were doing absolutely nothing...

Yeah, but then why not put it elsewhere? Why VA?

The voice acting in Prophesy of Pendor (assuming that's what PoP stands for) was not very good. I would go so far as to say the mod was better off without it. Unless there was an overhaul of the VA work after my last play-through of the mod you're not making yourself more credible by bringing that up.

I wouldn't say it was that bad in PoP, dang. So brutal. 😅
Oh It was pretty bad. Some of it was good. I used to always get a kick out of the Fierdsvain lord who'd greet you with "My tutor in the art of war!", but most of it was godawful.

No, I cannot hear this heretical nonsense! ☠️

it was bad in a good way im sure you mean. yes, that must be it

Why would you bring up a game made by one of the wealthiest, largest AAA games company to counter that point? Voice acting in sandbox games is insanely time consuming and a huge money drain.
Then why even bother with it? The last thing I thought Bannerlord ever needed was voice acting. Better put your resources elsewhere. Outer Wilds, one of the greatest narrative/written games ever made,.doesn't have an inch of voice acting. But it has well written dialog.

Thats people sitting at home recording on shi**y mics in their spare time -of course its low level. Obviously (at least it should be) TW would be using hired voices with pro gear, its about taking the time to do it. PoP design was very well run for a free mod and thats why its still so well known and loved to this day. Yeah we wrote the character backstories and recorded voices in spare time - and one could tear apart the quality of everything as compared to a professional RPG - but at least it tried something that the hundred million dollar TW just decided not to do

PS: Remind me to implement you into the next version oh King of Rats

I mean, that was Warband, let's be honest.

The sound design was.. Interesting, to say the least. Especially for a 2012 game.

It was charming, that's for sure. But also quite bad.

Wait a second... you worked on PoP? If I'm understanding you right, just wanted to say it's my favorite mod for Warband and I love it.

That doesn't sound bad, it just sounds old? At least in my opinion. I mean obviously there were bad sounds in Warband, but I never would have included this in it. 😅

Haha! Alright. Well, out of context it doesn't sound bad but to me it felt very alien to the rest of the sounddesign. The flute always caught me off guard.

Oh, you mean it fitting in, oay. I guess, yea. It sounded a little high for the rest of the sound design, I can see that.

Yeah that was some time ago -not even sure which version that would have been around 10-12 years ago. Funny story my GF at the time was a trained theatre actress who i coerced into doing the voice for the Snake Queen but it was so over the top Shakespearean, Fawzia (who was the director of the mod at that time) - wasnt having it and re-recorded it with her own voice. My Gf was outraged at being dropped from a small video game mod her ego just couldnt handle the indignation.

Ill tell you what it was a great team and i still have some friendships in RL with some of the group to this day. The forums were also a much more pleasant place back then.
