I don't see what the hype is about this game. I downloaded the demo, and it seemed aweful. I mean pardon me for being rude, but it just seemed really really weak.

No sound, odd AI, extremely limited gameplay, bad graphics. I mean in general, I just didn't see anything that was appealing.

What am I missing here? People talk this up like it is the second coming of christ, yet I can't even find anything that is appealing in it.

Enlighten me.

No sound? 'Awful' graphics? Limited gameplay? Where are you getting this from?

There's plenty sound unless you've got a hardware incompatibility or something. The graphics are perfectly adequate if a bit lacking in modern bells and whistles - but the pixel shading is going some way to compensate for that in the latest version. The gameplay is far from being limited - unless you reduce it to the barest form of 'fight and progress'. If you take that view then any game is limited. Half-Life 2 - shoot stuff. Rome: Total War - conquer the known world. So limited!

Provide better reasons for not liking it and you may stand a chance.

Well sorry but I have a Creative Audigy2 Zs and this is the only game I hear no sound in..

I loaded it up and it felt like some cheap game from the 80's.. What did I miss? Certainly I saw nothing to merit the outrageous hype being spread around.

But again, if i'm missing something, please - enlighten me.

I think for me it's the semi-realistic feeling of medieval group combat down to the dynamics of mounted combat and archery. The closest comparison to it for me would be Dynasty Warriors but that's just so cartoonish it really doesn't come close.

The clincher for me is the freeform strategic packaging that reminds me quite strongly of games I love like Pirates! if currently a very simplified form. The graphics are pretty decent as is the sound.

The rest of it is thinking about the possibilities of what the finished version might incorporate. You do know this is only a beta right?

It's an obscenely fun and addictive medieval action/rpg/tactical game, with mounted combat. There's nothing more to it. If you don't enjoy carving a swath of destruction through a line of enemy troops with your weapon of choice from atop your trusty steed then there's something wrong with you.

Definitelly what i like best is the mounted combat. I have not played any game in which it is made as good as in M&B. The whole fighting sequence is great. I love the feel of the battles.
I think we all know it is not a top of the line in grafics game, but hell, it is made by TWO devs and for that it has GREAT grafics, at least to me.
And by the way, grafics aint definitelly the most important aspect of a game!

First of all, there is sound in the game  There isn't always music though I think.

Second of all, if you take the fact into mind that this whole game is created by two people (husband & wife), it's relatively better then any other game on the market. It's even better then many games who've had many people working on it and cost millions. (so I say at least)

Third of all, this game is currently a beta version. You currently only have to play 12 out of 25 dollars to buy this game... that shows at what phase this project is at the moment. Expect much improvement to come.

And last of all, It's very well possible that this game just doesn't fit you. I've had multiple friend who just aren't interested. I suppose it's the same lack of interest I have for the very popular World of Warcraft. For me, I've been waiting a long time for a realistic first person medieval game and I'm tired of fantasy. I couldn't almost wait to try it when I saw the screenshots. Like I said, other people think differently about that. You're not forced to like it, but we enjoy it alot

Put simply, no other game out there is like this one. Its innovative, and has a very different feel to it than most. No retarded over the head backflips and crap like in Prince of Persia and stuff. And the game does have sound...lots of it...just as much as any other game out there i guess(lacking ambient sounds, but its still a beta after all). And bashing the graphics??? Sorry, but i don't see 30+ units and horses on a battlefield in Half Life 2, Doom3, or Farcry. So the graphics may not be top notch, but they certainly are good. As a friend put it "they get the job done". And who gives a crap about graphics anyways? I played both the doom3 and farcry demo's, and was bored within minutes but still go back and play final fantasy 7. Leave the eye candy for the kiddies and give me good gameplay. Oh, and welcome to the forums!

Same here, I see this game almost as being Medieval: Total War through the eyes of a general, albeit on a smaller scale. I've always been a fan of freeform games in any case, I was weened on Privateer and Pirates!. I just mgiht also be a bit of a medieval buff. For me seeing a game set in a medieval timeframe that has realistic combat, rather than just turning the player into a tank or platemail-clad ninja is somethign pretty unique.

I stil play games from the 80's, and most of the itme I have more fun playign them than I do playing newer games. I played and beat Halo in four hours, and it definately isn't something with any replay value. Games that focus on gameplay mechanics and actual content, rather than simply bright and shiney bells and whistles, are games that can be played over and over again. In my mind that is what makes a game great, if you can beat a game in four hours and then never want to play it again then why would you pay money for it?

The game is in the beta stages and shows incredible potential with that considered.

Your complaints about the game seem pretty superficial. No sound? Maybe no one turned your speakers on for you today? Odd AI? The game is being developed by two people, from scratch. Game's that have "revolutionary AI", that is to say every game you'll find in a box at the store today, have more people dedicated to AI alone than that. Extremely limited gameplay? I'll grant you that for a freeform game there are certainly some limits on your freedom, but that's because the game is in the beta stages. You aren't playing a complete game, you're playing "What is built so far" which is something much different. The game seems to have offered somethign new with every update, and that shows a lot of promise. Bad graphics? I personally thought the graphics were excellent, but I'll admit I'll have a grand ol' time playing the original Doom. Graphics are not the meat of a game. I always fidn it funny when gaming companies paste "Amazing graphics!" on their boxes. They never say anywhere about wether the game is fun or not, most likely because they don't want to lie, when they can just as easily keep their mouths shut (or their printers off) and let people assume graphics = fun. Even the graphics can be explained by the beta staus of the game. You should get the game running perfectly before worrying about wether or not you can squeeze in a few extra polygons and textures.

In any case, I can't see any reason to register on a game's forum simply to try and instigate people. If you honestly don't like the game for the reasons you stated, then just don't play it. Go pick up the new edition of PC Gamer and find out which new game you should by to get yourself a pretty new desktop and some new songs for your MP3 player, but then never actually play.

Instigate people? So it is "OK" to register to be like every other rabid and blind fanboy and praise the hell out of it. But if you don't like it - then you shouldn't register, and just go away?

Please..

What he means is that it's coming across as trolling - you didn't provide any reasons for why you think these bits are bad, you just state it and don't back it up when requested to.

Wow, congratulations! You're an *******!

Its ok to hate this game but the simple fact that you have directly insulted most of the community has gotten you a permanant reputation as a pointless member of this board. Until you provide true constructive critism I suggest you leave and don't come back.

I'm certainly not rabid about the game, but I do enjoy aspects of it. I'll probably enjoy the final product, as well, and I've supported the game mostly because this is a mom and pop shop committed to finishing what they started. I applaud that, and it's a fun game to play to boot.

So, to that aspect, There's a decently sized suggestion forum. Did you explore that, perhaps make suggestions, as to what you feel would improve gameplay?

They only recently (afaik) got a graphic artist on board their team, so a lot of these images are still a little rough. They're slowly being cleaned up. They'll probably never be, say, Halo II level. They don't NEED to be, either.

AI is usually built on top of existing engines, and those engines have typically been tested through multiple games. For an example, I point you to the 'X General' series. That engine, by the time it reached Star General, was fourth generation... and it was STILL rather odd occassionally. This is built from scratch, and you expect the AI to behave a little oddly during Beta as you finish the combat object model, and then finish integrating the AI into THAT, rather then vice versa.

What's appealing? Ah, now there you have to decide what you want. What's appealing to me is a game with some degree of RPG, mixed with tactical FPS combat. I like the concept of non-fantasy Mideival, but without the 'rule the kingdom' concepts where you're commanding everything from farm building to diplomacy. The simplistic control interface makes it an easy game to pick up, and the complexities incriment as you go.

A moderately robust trade system is developed, giving you alternative play styles.

Near *unlimited* choices within the game system are available. Become a combat hound and slaughter everything yourself, or have a lot of fun commanding 70+ units and running down the enemy, while you hang back hiding in your armor.

Now, please, be constructive as to what you ARE looking for, instead of degrading us for our choice of enjoyment with what is there so far and what we see this game has the possibility of becoming.

Odd that someone comes here and wonders what's so good about this game when he doesn't see anything, and gets swarmed with people taking it as a personal insult. Maybe brutal medieval warfare just isn't for Aranath?

For the record, I think the game rocks

Games are made for a specific audience and it seems this one isnt for you. What else is there to say? I like it.

90% of the games that are made are boring junk imo... but I wouldnt bother posting that in their forums as its just a waste of my time.

I have a Audigy2 Zs and I have sound.
As far as being a game from the 80s, I suggest you go back and look at some games from the 80s.
I personally hate the tendency among most game companies these days to concentrate more on pretty graphics than gameplay that will keep me interested. I blame it on the 10 second attention span most folks seem to have since the MTV generation.

Can you tell us why you hate it? Can you back up a single statement you make? Can you offer an opinion of how it could be made better? Or are you just trying to anger the community? It does make you look rather foolish to just start bashing the game without any reasoning behind it. If you really prefer flashy colors go play your CS:Source

DaLagga, Fenix is someone else

I don't like MTV because it plays far too little music for a music channel. I suppose music video's don't work anymore to please the crouwd.

Aranath, what games do you play/like to play? And what brought you here in the first place? It's okay to be positive about a game on their own forum right ?
