I can't get the lords to follow me

If I can't get them to follow me i can't siege castles, if i do it just me i lose too many men and then even if i recruit a bunch of new ones they die very easily because not experienced, can someone help me outta this bind

You need either good relation with them or you have to be a marshal to get them follow you. So, this is why you should leave castles alone until you have enough renown to get to position of a marshal. Still, when you have have enough renown you can probably get enough big force to take some castles alone.
