I can only seem to get past the first screen.

Would you be able to take a screenshot?
Anyways, hopefully Armagan or Archonsod will be able to advise you on this as I have no idea what might be causing it.
The only suggestion I could make would be to un-install, delete the mount&blade folder, and do a full, fresh installation of 0.711.

So the main menu's are fine, but the problem is once you get into the character creation screen?
Is it just the text, or is the rest of the screen garbled?
What graphics card do you have, and what driver version?
Do you have any of Window's accesability functions activated (large fonts, etc).
Does the problem occur if you run M&B in windowed mode?

First off, sorry I have been so late in my responce. My computer crashed last friday, and I was just able to get up again.
The text is the only thing that is garbled.

Check you have the latest drivers from Nvidia.
Also, if its fine in windowed mode it could be a problem with the resolution or the refresh rate. This may be down to the monitor your using. Something else that has been known to help here is to reduce the max FPS to 60 in the configuration file.

Hey, can you get to the options screen of the main menu? I kept creating new characters (older M&B version but still does it on new one to me) and it would crash... I was able to fix it by going to options > video options > and disabling everything but the permanent corpses... I don't know if this helps but its worked for me...
