I bought the DVD - can I get around using Steam?

I've been excited about finally getting to play Warband. I prefer to have a physical copy of the game, so I ordered the DVD. I opened it up today and saw that it requires I install Steam.

It would have been nice to have seen that information listed before wasting my time and purchasing the copy. If I knew I had to have Steam, I would have just ordered it off the Tale Worlds website, as I understand that version does not require Steam.

Seeing as how i already opened the DVD, I can't return it. Is there any way I can submit the serial number of the game to Tale Worlds and get access to download the game from their website so I don't have to use Steam?

Isn't there a key inside the dvd box/manual ?? If so you can just download the game (or demo version) from taleworlds > use the serial from the DVD > and have fun

As I understand it there is a Steam serial key and a non-Steam serial key. If your version requires Steam it probably also came with the Steam key and not the non-Steam key. If that is indeed the case you will have to use Steam.

I am pretty sure that you can take your key out of steam and put it in a non-steam version. Not 100% sure though, I never use steam.

I'm 99.99% sure the above is true. I remember reading the keys are compatible with bost steanm and non steam. Download it here and insert your key.

Serial in box is a Steam key and it won't work with TW version yet you can get a TW serial from Steam after installing the game.

Normally I'm very pro-Steam -- why not, it's a handy aggregator for your games -- but recent patches have introduced a bug where if you are playing with Steam set to offline mode and enter a city, the game crashes. Since this is no bueno, I've also considered switching to a non-Steam version.

It's an irritating bug, and I wish the devs would just fix it rather than force this goofy workaround on Steam users.

Okay,  I finally got my PC up and running after I had a power supply go bad on me.

I tried entering the serial key present on the DVD case and it does not work. I looked around online and, as Kleido said, it is NOT a serial key, but some kind of Steam code.

Is there any way I can get a serial key without using Steam? I have used Steam in the past - I do not want it back on my PC. It sucks, because I am looking at the phsyical copy of the game in my lap, and I can not play it. If the product description for the game would have mentioned Steam at all, I would have just bought the download.

I went ahead and downloaded Steam, and entered the code on the inside of the DVD case, and Steam is telling me the code is not valid!

I am frustrated and have no idea what to do now.
