Humans vs Zombies

So, using facebook and other forms of internet detecting, we think we may have identified another one of the original zombies, bringing the supposed known number to two out of three.  Looks like the incubation period could be over relatively painlessly.  Unfortunately, one of our hallmates is avoiding us more than normal, refuses to submit to wearing an armband while in our dorm (where we're relatively safe from roaming zombies, since they're unlikely to come to our floor) and was roaming campus alone for a bit.  Needless to say, we're cautiously suspicious.

So it isn't you then?

Actually, just out of interest, who coordinates the whole thing? Somebody must decide who a zombie is right...?

Forget it, I read the first post more thoroughly. Still, good luck not getting killed!

Right, had my first encounter with what is probably an original zombie.  Was heading to fencing and saw a group of people hanging around inside the lounge on the first floor.  Walked past, heard "when's this kid gonna show anyway" and kept walking.  Later, one of my friends called me (we passed in the hall) to tell me that he'd heard them say "****, that was him.  Oh well, we'll get him on the way back."  When I returned, no one was there.  *shrug*  Like I said, quite boring for the first few days.  On the other hand, now we both know that they know where I live.

Do bystanders ever look at the players suspiciously or have they just accepted "meh, university folk" ?

That's the greatest thing ever. I should try to get that started when I go back to school.

*shrug*  Boring.  There are 6 hours until the incubation period ends, whereupon we all wear our armbands, carry guns, and generally have a good time shooting zombies.  Also, there's a mission tomorrow, details unknown.

Right.  Bandanas are being worn, and in the ten hours since they came on, ten more people have turned.  Also, the mission is relatively simple.  We have an hour to go from Posvar to the Bellefield side of Cathedral Lawn.  Since I know you don't know our campus, that's about four hundred meters.  If all the humans show up, it should be cake.  Hell, if half do, it should be.  We're doing it because the reward consists of the bayonet, easily the most useful weapon, in my opinion.

However large you want, though the nature of foam makes them rather useless after a certain distance.  Mine is probably about two feet of reach total, eight inches being the gun itself.

A slight correction:  No bayonets were awarded this mission.  Two (maybe one) more must be completed before we get them.  Anyhow, the mission proceeded as easily as planned.  The zombies, being limited in number, chose to camp out at the drop-off point.  The humans split up into three teams and sent in three directions.  My team, being the smallest and most proficient at moving rapidly and safely, arrived well before everyone else.  We numbered about nine, against the ~twelve zombies.  One moved in behind us, so I told two humans to engage.  Two more humans split off to come in from the zombies' side, leaving four-ish (honestly, I can't recall) facing the zombies, with myself on the left.  We were on a relatively narrow walkway, with a hedge (barely leapable by me, probably not leapable by anyone else there) on the left,  a tree three meters ahead of me, and about ten meters of open path to my right until a building.  About ten meters behind me was a broad, shallow stairway leading to the lawn below and to the left.

We formed up there while we waited for the other human groups to arrive, facing off against the zombies.  A group of ~15 came over the hill far to the left-front, and proceeded to do exactly nothing.  Seeing this, the zombies decided to rush us.  Now, normally, this wouldn't have been an issue.  Unfortunately, a run of bad luck was nearly catastrophic.  The two people on the right flank both suffered gun failures.  One, using a battery-powered 22-round semi-automatic, apparently ran out of batteries.  The other was using both an air-powered 10-round auto and the standard six-shot revolver.  For whatever reason, the air-powered failed to fire and the six-shot jammed.  Since those two were responsible for covering each other, this didn't end well.  The dual-wielder took off for the stairs behind me, while the other decided to try and use his socks.  He took one out, but was ultimately tagged by a diving zombie (and knocked over, somehow).

In the initial rush, I took out one with a long-range shot from my left-handed single-shot, which I dropped.  A second zombie approached from behind the tree, dodged a shot, and was dropped by combined fire from myself and the person on my right.  Hearing running behind me, I turned and chased down the zombie who had followed the dual-wielder down the stairs.  I tagged him, then returned to find that the four who'd split off earlier had returned and mopped up the rest.  About two minutes later, the second human group arrived.  We then waited for about five minutes until the third group (which was carrying the "fuel cell" we needed) arrived, got our points, then left.  On the return journey, we encountered no humans or zombies, except for one that was actually hiding in the goal building, dispatched by me as he rushed out.

End result:  one third (potentially more) of the way to acquiring bayonets; one human down through very unfortunate luck.

As a fun sidenote, when we walked to the human rendezvous site, there was a pretty impressive welcome, based on our reputation from last year.

Is there a website with stats like last time?
Yes.

How does one go about getting points?

Indeed.  Today's mission was made highly interesting by the involvement of police officers.  Basically, we had some twenty-five humans against ~50 zombies, attacking a very broad stairway.  We made it up to the top of the stairway just fine, killing a fair amount of zombies on the way up.  Irritatingly, none of them vacated the area, so several zombies were killed twice.  (I saw one get hit with a sock, and then I shot her in the face at range about five minutes later.)  Anyhow, we retrieved the item we were supposed to, were staying very close together, nicely, not breaking ranks, calling out spots.  A horde sprinted around the corner and smashed into the left flank, presumably killing the entire side (sadly, not one human admitted to dying).  A few came in from the right, which were taken down.  Seeing the entire left fall, I dropped the rifle I was carrying, ripped out the revolver, and pretty much broke out of their ring.  There was a dispute over who was tagged when, so we paused, reset, then the police arrived.  They promised to cite any human carrying a plastic gun, so we left rather quickly.

Summary:  everyone gets points, every zombie gets food (but no kills), the game's off for the night.  Further missions will be split into smaller groups of humans and zombies.
