Humanity: Good or bad?

So,

Can a person be completely bad or completely good? How do we measure humanity and who are we to judge?

Well, Imo..

Unless drug induced or mentally unstable we're brought into life capable of benevolence, as well as evil. Man is neither good nor bad, we're somewhere on a scale between the two, we're placed upon this scale by people that judge by what they believe to be just, our assumptions of what is just tends to be decided from morals and ethics bestowed upon us by our family, culture, class and status. You're asking such a broad question. We do wrong for personal gain, this idea has been around since the beginning, Prometheus, Icarus, Satan, all these characters perform evil and crimes because their situation is not pleasing to them, they are restrained by society, this brings on the idea of anarchy, that we are oppressed by the government and that we're oppressed to the point that we cannot achieve freedom.. I won't continue mainly because I'm too low on time, however in the grand scheme of things we commit bad actions for personal gain.

Please, post your responses!

This conversation is pointless as good and bad are inherently subjective, unquantifiable abstractions which do not exist outside of human thought.

We are animals and when behave like the animals we simply mask it with a layer of complexity. There are no inherently good or bad actions.
There you go.

Of course, I know how this works.

"Your castle is so big Llandy, I've never seen a bigger castle before."

Llandy, can we just make this thread about the "Man in the High Castle" instead?
Make of it what you will... as long as my penis is the biggest.
Fixed.
So easy it isn't even funny.
Edit:
**** you, Ulf.

The best we could do in this thread (on-topic) is discuss which definition of "good" and "evil" was the most useful and most applicable, and then judge humanity by that agreed upon standard. But we already have a thread for that, so...

Oh, how jealous I am of Llandy's castle!

It's nice...

[me=Úlfheðinn]glances around[/me]

But have you seen Jhessail's castle? I didn't think a castle could be so big...

Apologies to any/all female or Bavarian posters, I am drinking and can't remember who is an FBI agent at the moment. I mean we have Llandy, Jhess, CW, Dryvus' boss, Harkonette and Wellenbrecher.

What are the evils Prometheus and Icarus did? As far as I know, Prometheus was quite a helpful guy, and Icarus was imprisoned because of what his father did (that old fart of a miscreant helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur. Vile, isn't it?). Also Satan was an (arch)angel and Prometheus was a Titan, thus not much to do with the evil of human beings.

A lot of people like to make all religions conform with each other, this makes religion seem a little less randomly generated than it really is. "Oh look, they have a titan who angered the gods, he must be Lucifer under a different name!" With that conclusion the world makes sense once again. A crisis of faith has been successfully diverted.

Nope; Prometheus was a friend of humans and stood up for them against the gods, while Lucifer was ****ing up humanity from the beginning. That's quite the moral difference.

We're savages.
Discussion over.
Savages, savages, barely even human!

Wait, no.

Also, lol you nit, if anything 'savage' is an incredibly relative term, and relatively speaking we're the most 'civilized' race on earth, thus the least savage.

And you don't get to call which discussions are over. >:U

He also created them if I remember correctly.

I always like to compare Prometheus to Jesus - he suffered punishment from an angry and vengeful God so that man may live. Also, his punishment was waaay worse than Jesus' - being crucified and dying can't touch being chained to a mountain and having an eagle peck out your liver everyday.
