usually we'll use tab to do shortcut actions like leaving the village or buy stuff, but why is there no option to 'return to where i am' ? Let's say im currently in a village, walked very deep into it, and suddenly i had to chat with my fren on steam overlay, so i shift tab...and that accidentally tabs the game. I have no choice but to reenter the village..and walk again

huh? no, escape or alt+enter won't work.

this is basic interface requirements....it's making it not so intuitive  :(

Escape puts you in the game menu while leaving you in the village. You should be able to alt+tab safely if you're in the menu.

CTRL-SHIFT-ESC is also an alternative to ALT-TAB. That way, you also leave the game and the game registers an ESC instead of a TAB.

no wait..i don't actually want to leave the game back into windows. I want to back out from the tabbed screen back into the game.

let's say im walking in the village, i press tab, i get a list of options, one is to 'enter the village' (but this would make me have to walk to where i was in the village again) , and maybe 'visit the market'..and another is 'leave' . I want to 'cancel' this tab and move back to where i was playing

And they are explaining you that while this is impossible, you can avoid leaving the village in the first place by using other keys than Tab to open the chat, or by pressing ESC before you press tab so it won't put you on the village screen.

Just don't press Tab and the problem is solved.

Also, towns and villages are very small. With a horse you can get from one end to another in a couple of seconds. Just do that.
